GREEN LAKE, WI, — The work of fiber artist Patty Aker will be featured throughout the month of September in the Town Square Lobby Gallery. The gallery is located in the front lobby of the building and open to the public Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm and Saturday 9 am – 3 pm.
“I enjoy designing abstracts with an organic slant, working with layers of paint and resists, employing different techniques to build on texture.” Aker states. “The result belies the simplicity of my craft.”
Aker’s love of fashion and sewing led her to working with fibers. She finds excitement in painting on silk, as the paint often has a mind of its own.
“The paints are uncontrollable upon touching the silk and take on a life of their own, swirling, pushing, and merging into amazing contortions of vibrant color,” Aker says. “The dye flow is tamed by various methods and the result is always a visual, textural surprise.”
With a decade plus of experience under her belt, Aker continues to experiment with different techniques and designs. Exhibitions of her work have also been found at many juried art shows. Her latest work reflects the fragile environment and the impact humans have on the earth.
Town Square Community Center is devoted to showcasing local artists, and the Lobby Gallery is Green Lake’s popular showcase for the latest works of the area’s most outstanding artists.
