Charges have been brought in Winnebago County court against a 42-year-old Brillion man allegedly involved in a car-jacking and hit-and-run accident in the City of Oshkosh. WOLFE APPOINTMENT GOES TO COURT

State Senator Dan Feyen voted against the appointment of Megan Wolfe to serve as Administrator of the state’s Elections Commission. The State Senate Thursday voted to remove Wolfe from her post, but Wolfe says she will remain in her position until a court tells her otherwise. Feyen says Wolfe failed to show up for a committee meeting to defend the job she has done. The state lawmaker from Fond du Lac calls it a blatant disregard for the appointment process and the Senate’s defined role in that process. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced the filing of a lawsuit seeking an order declaring that Wolfe is lawfully holding over in her current position and the Senate has no power to reject her. Kaul says, “We are going to court to minimize the confusion resulting from today’s stunt and to protect a pillar of our democracy-the fair administration of elections.”  The lawsuit was filed in Dane County court.

ALLIANT ENERGY SAFETY TIPS FOR THE HARVEST SEASON

As the annual fall harvest season gets underway, Alliant Energy reminds farmers of the vital importance of staying safe when operating farm equipment near power lines. The fall harvest season is riskier for several reasons: more equipment is deployed in the field; the equipment tends to be larger, such as combines, wagons and tractors; and farmers often work in the dark when it’s difficult to see poles and wires. To help keep farmers safe and the power on for all, Alliant Energy offers these safety tips. Maintain a safe distance always staying at least 10 feet from all power lines and power poles. Know your equipment’s height before driving under a power line. Do not attempt to raise power lines. Be aware of your turning radius. Stay alert, especially after dark when it will be harder to see power poles and lines. Know what to do if an overhead line contacts equipment. Stay on the equipment. Do not step to the ground. Call 911. Report damage to wires and poles, and if there is a downed line call 1-800-Alliant.

STATE ASSEMBLY PASSES TAX CUT PLAN

The State Assembly this week passed a middle-class tax cut, significant tax relief for Wisconsin retirees, and protections for residents of the state from massive tax increases in the future. State Representative Jon Plumer says, “Our focus in the Legislature hasn’t changed. Fund the important priorities for Wisconsin like education, roads, mental health, and affordable healthcare and return our historic surplus to tax payers through a significant middle-class tax cut.” If the GOP tax plan goes through it would provide the average filer over $770 in savings, eliminates taxes on retirement income, and amends the state constitution to require a two-thirds super majority vote to raise taxes in the future. The Governor’s line-item veto in the state budget reduced the average tax savings to just $36. Governor Tony Evers had threatened to veto the legislation.
