9/13/23 Dr Bryce Aul Joins SSM Health Eye Clinic in Waupun

13 September 2023 News

SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic welcomes Bryce Aul, MD, an ophthalmologist (eye care surgeon) to its SSM Health Eye Care clinic, 608 W. Brown Street, Waupun (convenient access off Beaver Dam Street). He is now accepting patients.

Dr. Aul specializes in comprehensive eye care and provides examinations, diagnosis and treatment for a variety of eye disorders. He is especially interested in cataract surgery, medical retina, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration.

He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and his residency training in ophthalmology from the Mayo Clinic.

“My job is to help people with their eyes and their vision,” says Dr. Aul. “Everyone has different perspectives, concerns, and goals so first I want to understand where a patient is coming from and what they are hoping for. Once we figure that out, then I can use my professional knowledge and skills to help them reach those goals.”

Dr. Aul has relocated to Ripon with his wife, Andrea Aul, MD, a pediatrician who is seeing patients at the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic in Ripon. He enjoys hiking, camping, running, biking, swimming, paddleboarding, pickleball, tennis, and golf.

“I love the mix between clinic and surgery,” says Dr. Aul. “In clinic, I like getting to develop longstanding relationships with patients and families to really get to know them and help them manage acute and chronic eye problems to try to make their lives easier. In surgery, I’m passionate about surgical technique and new innovations to maximize safety and give patients the best possible vision for them. It’s a great mix.”

Dr. Aul joins other eye care physicians, including Adam Strittmatter, MD, ophthalmologist, and Farzana Akter, OD, optometrist.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have a great group of people to work with, but the best part of my job is getting patients through cataract surgery and helping them regain their sight. It can make a huge difference in quality of life in such a short time and getting to see that progression is immensely satisfying.”

In his role, Dr. Aul says he is motivated to stay on the cutting edge of safety surgical techniques. “Given how many cataract surgeries we do each year, every little margin of safety matter,” he explains. “There will always be some risk to any surgery, including cataract surgery, but doing everything I can to minimize that risk and be as precise as possible in my technique keeps me focused.”
