9/1/23 Hometown Broadcasting Sports Friday

1 September 2023 Sports

There were no games yesterday in the NL Central.  Tonight the Brewers host the Phillies at American Family Field. Philadelphia will send right-hander Zack Wheeler (10—6, 3.59 ERA) against Milwaukee righty Freddy Peralta (1108, 3.95).  First pitch is at 7:10.

After losing 2 out of 3 in Chicago the Brewers lead over the Cubs is down to 3 games in the division while the Reds, who play the Cubs at home, are 6 games out.

On Thursday the Brewers announced Thursday that they have signed Donaldson to a Minor League contract. The 37-year-old will report to Triple-A Nashville and will be eligible for Brewers’ postseason roster, should they make it, as he signed before the end of August.

The addition comes two days after Josh Donaldson was released by the Yankees amid an injury-marred season. He is hitting just .142 with a .659 OPS in 34 games this year. He has been sidelined by a right calf strain since mid-July and wasn’t in line to be eligible for activation off the 60-day IL until Sept. 15 — but that resets with a move to a new organization, Milwaukee GM Matt Arnold said. The Brewers are free to call up Donaldson to the Majors at any time.

The Packers will have some time off this weekend and then will get ready for their first game in Chicago September 10th against the Bears.

The Packers Hall of Fame has added two stars, with WR Jordy Nelson and offensive guard Josh Sitton inducted on Thursday night.

Both entered the league together in 2008 and won the Super Bowl together in the 2010 season.

Nelson was named an All-Pro once and caught 550 passes in his nine seasons with the Packers. Sitton was named All-Pro 3 times.

“The people in the building are what makes the difference and there’s good people all over the place in this business,” Nelson said. “If you ever find those, you gravitate to those people.”
