FDL’S BIG HOLE SEARCHED FOR MISSING MAN

The search for a missing 56-year-old Fond du Lac man took authorities to the waters of Lakeside Park Marina known to locals as “The Big Hole” Monday. Troy Zupke has been missing since Thursday night when he walked away from his residence. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s dive team and water patrol/rescue were asked by Fond du Lac Police to assist in the search. Boaters were asked to stay out of the area during the search. Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says they were looking for Zupke but didn’t find anything. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photo).

RED FENTANYL SEIZED IN TRAFFIC STOP AND HOME SEARCH

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials say a traffic stop this past weekend and subsequent search of the suspect’s home led to the seizure of a new fatal drug threat to the area “red fentanyl.” It began when a Sheriff’s K9 deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle in Fond du Lac. K9 Rip did an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted on the vehicle for drugs. A crack pipe and scale, crack and red fentanyl were seized. The driver was arrested for multiple drug-related offenses and on a probation and parole hold.  A search of the driver’s home led to the recovery of 27 grams of crack and 12 grams of red fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, cutting agents and other items related to the sale and distribution of illegal drugs. Depending on the purity of the fentanyl, the quantity could contain upwards of 6,000 lethal doses. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photo).

VEHICLE THEFT SUSPECT BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL IN FDL COUNTY

A 42-year-old Milwaukee man facing vehicle theft and bail jumping charges in Fond du Lac County was bound over for trial during his preliminary hearing last Friday. Toua Vang waived his right to a preliminary hearing and pled not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned. He allegedly stole a vehicle in Fond du Lac last month. On Sunday, July 23rd a vehicle was reported stolen in the city and a Sheriff’s deputy spotted the stolen vehicle traveling together with a red SUV on Interstate 41 southbound near Townline Road. The deputy pulled the vehicle over on Pioneer Road after it got off the interstate. According to the criminal complaint the driver, Toua Vang, had a set of five keys commonly known as “Shaved keys” that are used to steal vehicles. Vang was convicted of vehicle theft in Ozaukee County nearly 4 years ago and served just shy of a year in prison. He has pending cases in Waukesha and Sheboygan counties.

NAME RELEASED IN DODGE COUNTY MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the 76-year-old Hustisford man injured in a motorcycle crash on County Highway E near Perch Road in the Town of Hubbard Saturday afternoon. Flight for Life flew Ronald Magyar to Aurora Summit Hospital in Oconomowoc with life-threatening injuries. Sheriff’s officials say Magyar was heading south on County Highway E when his motorcycle struck a road construction barrier. He was thrown from his bike. He was not wearing a helmet. The accident was reported shortly before 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

TOWNLINE ROAD BRIDGE DECK REPLACEMENT

Governor Tony Evers recently signed a $913,560 contract to improve the Townline Road bridge over Interstate 41 in the Fond du Lac County town of Friendship. Construction of a new bridge deck begins next Monday. A full closure of Townline Road will take place during deck replacement. The contract is for 45 days. The prime contractor is Lunda Construction Company of Black River Falls. Improvements will include full replacement of the bridge deck with a new concrete deck and new parapet walls, replacement of roadway pavement approaches to the structure, grading to flatten side slopes, and replacement of guardrail on the bridge approach.

SENATOR BALLWEG BILL SIGNED INTO LAW

State Senator Joan Ballweg’s county land conservation committee bill was signed into law by Governor Tony Evers last Friday. The bill makes updates to membership of county land conservation committees. It was widely supported by agricultural groups in Wisconsin. The state lawmaker from Markesan says, “This ensures farmers maintain their voice on county land conservation committees. These committees play an important role in agriculture and local government.” The legislation was necessary after a 2021 determination by the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency that their members could not represent the FSA on any outside groups.

RIPON KINDERGARTEN CHANGES

Ripon Area School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says there are changes for their early childhood and kindergarten classes this fall. Their 4K program will be going to full time, four days a week. Whitrock says childcare centers in town are developing child care programs for the days they are not in session. In addition they have collaborated with ADVOCAP which will offer head start programs for three-year-olds. She says the program had previously been for four-year-old, but they are moving it down for three-year-olds. She says it will offer a wonderful start for students coming into the school district. District Business Manager Jonah Adams says they will see an increase in their overall kindergarten class size this fall.

FREELAND PRESENTATION FRIDAY ON THE GLOBAL WILDLIFE BUSINESS

Private ownership and the trafficking of exotic animals like tigers, lions, and more is the topic of a Freeland presentation at the Green Lake American Legion this Friday evening. Doors open at 5 pm and a panel discussion will start at 5:30. Experts in wildlife trade, protection, and care from Wisconsin will join a recently retired federal special agent for a bar-side chat: Wisconsin and the Global Wildlife Business. Evelyn Galster of Freeland says Carol Baskin of Big Cat Rescue will join the conversation virtually. Other speakers will include Freeland founder Steve Galster, Edward Newcomer a former US Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent, Amy Kerwin from Primates Incorporated, and Jill Carnegie of the Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat. There will be free admission and appetizers, with a cash bar.  The event will also be streamed on Freeland Facebook live.

SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital Day Stabilization Services welcomes new psychotherapist Rachael Bergmann. Day Stabilization Services is available to help individuals experiencing any of these common concerns: depression, mood disturbances, anxiety, stress, grief reactions, psychosis, distortion or disconnection from realty, and more. As a psychotherapist, Bergmann will assist Day Stabilization Services patients to address their specific mental health challenges and symptoms. Bergmann earned her associate degree in substance abuse counseling from Moraine Park Technical College, and a master’s degree at the UW-Milwaukee. YOUNG PROFESSIONALS OF FDL

A member of the Young Professionals of Fond du Lac says she gets more out of her membership than just networking opportunities. Caitlin Aussprung says their members come from a wide variety of different career fields.  She says they schedule regular social events which could include a Dock Spiders game, a lunch bunch, Monday mixers and more. She says YPF is for young professionals throughout the Fond du Lac area who would enjoy professional development, networking, and social opportunities. YPF is a program of Envision Greater Fond du Lac which started with 12 members in 2004 and now has more than 600 members throughout the Fond du Lac area.
