SLINGER MAN FACING GUNS AND DRUG CHARGES

Washington County authorities recovered over an ounce of cocaine, more than $12,000 in cash, and seventeen firearms including a machine gun, thousands of rounds of ammunition, ballistic vests, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana during the execution of a search warrant at a Slinger man’s apartment. The search of 37-year-old Robert Cleveland’s address was last Thursday. Cleveland was already in jail on other charges. Washington County Sheriff’s officials say he has been on their radar for several months because he is known to sell cocaine at Slinger area Taverns. RIPON MAN SUSPECTED OF STEALING FROM A CHURCH

A 27-year-old Ripon man is facing charges for allegedly stealing money from a church. Joseph Sutula made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court yesterday on burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property charges. Bond was set at $1,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Thursday. According to the criminal complaint Sutula had been kicked out of his parent’s house and was getting assistance from Ripon Community Church. While hanging out at the church Sutula was there when they were locking up and had seen where the money was kept. He told investigators he made sure one of the doors was left unlocked and after everyone left he went back to the church and put his shoulder into a locked office door. He then searched for money and found a bank bag with cash and checks in a desk drawer. According to the criminal complaint he used some of the money to buy gasoline, purchased a money order, bought an XBOX and XBOX gift card, and took trips to Oshkosh, Madison, and Green Lake. He also went to a bar and told investigators because he was too drunk to drive back from Madison he got a hotel room.  (Fond du Lac County Jail photo).

DANEROUS VEHICLE PURSUIT

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says it is surprising how far two Milwaukee area women got while they were fleeing from deputies during a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 41 last Saturday night. Their vehicle’s tires were shredded by stop sticks in Fond du Lac County, but they rode their rims into Dodge and Washington counties before losing control and crashing into a median barrier in Washington County. Waldschmidt says the two women were on a crime spree across Northeast and Central Wisconsin riding in a stolen vehicle with thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise and drugs in the vehicle. The merchandise was from retail thefts and an armed robbery at a store in Plover. The pursuit covered 34 miles.

REPUBLICAN TAX CUT PLAN

Republicans in the State Assembly Tuesday morning introduced the “Returning Your Surplus” tax relief proposal. The proposal’s goal is to return taxpayer dollars back to middle-class Wisconsinites and provide tax relief for retirees. The package will deliver $2.9 billion back to taxpayers. Governor Evers vetoed a tax cut for the middle-class in the State Budget. State Representative Alex Dallman of Green Lake says he believes state taxpayers deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money.  State Representative Jon Plumer of Lodi says the tax relief plan would provide the average filer over $770 in savings, eliminates taxes on retirement incomes sources for seniors, and amends the state constitution to require a two-thirds super-majority vote to raise taxes in the future.

DISCOUNT PRESCRIPTION DRUG MILESTONE

The Fond du Lac County United Way reached a milestone in the past year with the use of the Single Care prescription drug discount card and app they promote. United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee says the card and app help to ensure those who may not be able to afford their prescriptions have access to them and take them as needed. She says the card isn’t there to help meet co-pays for people who already have insurance but can assist people with high-deductibles, those who are underinsured or those who don’t have prescription drug coverage. The Fond du Lac County United Way has been participating in the Single Care formerly Family Care prescription drug discount program for 15 years and last year reached a milestone meeting $1 million in savings. The card is free and can save you up to 40 percent off prescription drugs. The card is available at pharmacies, through the United Way website where it can be downloaded, and the app can be found in Apple and Google play stores.

SAFE BOATING TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The state’s Department of Natural Resources reminds the public to keep safety top of mind as they cast off this Labor Day weekend by boating sober and always wearing a life jacket. There have been 13 boating-related fatalities so far this boating season, 12 of which were not wearing life jackets. The law requires one wearable and correctly sized life jacket be readily available for each person aboard. Among the DNR’s other safety recommendations for the holiday weekend. Leave the alcohol at the dock until done boating for the day.  Slow down at night. Check your navigation lights before the sun goes down.  Slow down if visibility is an issue or boating on unfamiliar waterways and keep an eye on the weather and let someone know where you are going.
