A 28-year-old Ripon man was sentenced this week to four years in prison and four years of extended supervision for a pair of incidents last year in Ripon including one where he fired off a handgun in a residence two small children were present in. Jesus Lozoya (pictured) was drunk during that incident in May of 2022.  No one was injured during that incident. A second incident in July of last year involved domestic abuse charges. Charges from a third incident in June of 2022 were read into the record and dismissed during Tuesday’s sentencing hearing in Fond du Lac County court. Lozoya pled no contest to strangulation and suffocation, false imprisonment, felony bail jumping, second degree recklessly endangering safety, marijuana possession, and firearm charges on May 8th.

HIGH SPEED CHASE IN CALUMET COUNTY

Calumet County Sheriff’s officials arrested a 32-year-old Kaukauna man following two high-speed chases in the county Wednesday. The first occurred on Elm Road near County Highway M in the Town of Woodville when a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle for not displaying license plates. The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and evaded an effort to use tire deflation devices. The chase was cut off due to safety concerns. However, a second pursuit was initiated on State Highway 55 when the Sheriff’s office received complaints about the vehicle driving into oncoming traffic and running a vehicle off the road. This time tire deflation devices were successful and the Kaukauna man stopped his vehicle on State Highway 55 near High Cliff Road in the Town of Harrison.  Deputies learned his license had been revoked and he was out on bond. He was arrested and was taken to the Calumet County Jail. Deputies located drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.

FAIREST OF THE FAIR

Green Lake County Fairest of the Fair Jenna Konrad knows a little something about county fairs. She has been in 4-H since she was 9-years-old and has had projects or shown animals since then. This year she will show a steer, which is something new for her but so too is her role as Fairest of the Fair. With the fair kicking off today she will be pressed into service for that. By showing animals she has learned about leadership, responsibility, and respect.  Jenna’s father was in 4-H when he was younger. Her brother shows animals and her sister Katelyn is the Junior Fairest of the Fair. Jenna will be hosting a milk and cookie social at the fair Saturday afternoon. Among the activities at the Green Lake County Fair today is the Farm Bureau Pork Dinner at 4 pm, live music by the String Showdown at 4 and 6 pm, the Midway opens at 5 pm, and a truck and tractor pull at 6:30 pm.
