After sweeping the Rangers in three games over the weekend and going 6-3 on their road trip the Brewers are home tonight hosting the Twins in the first game of a two games series at American Family Field. In the NL Central Monday the Cubs edged the Tigers 7-6, the Pirates bombed the Cardinals 11-1 and the Reds at the Angels was postponed. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 2 ½ games and the Reds by 4.
In the Midwest League tonight the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers host Quad Cities. First pitch is at 6:40.
The Packers close out their preseason Saturday afternoon at home against the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Matt LaFleur says quarterback Jordan Love will play against Seattle. He also said he challenged center Josh Meyers two weeks ago and said the third-year player has played well overall and has been very good at pass protection.
As for the 11 penalties for 85 yards called against his team against the Patriots Saturday night, LaFleur said some were justified, some were the because of tighter calls in the preseason and some were “a little tic tac.”
The pregame Saturday starts at 10:00 with the kickoff at noon and can be heard on FM 1023, The Bug.
In preseason Monday Night Football the Commanders won at home over the Ravens 29-28. Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams of USC, Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michigan running back Blake Corum are among the returning first-team players who were selected to The Associated Press preseason All-America team announced Monday.
Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt and Miami safety Kam Kinchens also followed up their stellar 2022 seasons by being named preseason All-Americans by voters in the AP Top 25.
No. 3 Ohio State was second with three. Harrison was joined by fellow receiver Emeka Egbuka and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg.
Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen, a Fond du Lac High School graduate, was named to the second team.
Williams was named the AP Player of the Year before he won the Heisman last year, his first at USC after transferring from Oklahoma.
Corum was a Heisman contender last year until a late-season injury and returns to lead the second-ranked Wolverines, who are trying to reach the College Football Playoff for a third straight season. Michigan guard Zak Zinter was also selected to the first team.
The Wolverines, along with Big Ten rivals Penn State and Iowa, LSU and Washington each had two first-team selections.
The Big Ten led all conferences with 12 players on the first team and the Southeastern Conference was next with seven.
The Pac-12 had five first-team selections, led by Williams and including Colorado two-way threat Travis Hunter, who is expected to play both receiver and cornerback for coach Deion Sanders.
