HOUSE FIRE IN FDL

Firefighters in Fond du Lac responded to a fire at a two-story single family home at 129 West Scott Street last night. When crews arrived they found fire showing from a first floor window and heavy smoke coming from the entire building. The fire was quickly knocked down from the outside and crews made an interior fire attack extinguishing the blaze. No one was inside the home and there were no injuries, though two pets perished in the fire. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief James Wamser says heavy damage occurred to the home with smoke and water damage throughout. No other structures were damaged. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The cause and origin of the fire is being determined. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents of the home. The time of the fire call was 6:48 pm.

MAN KILLED IN FALL AT STATE PARK

The DNR and Sauk County agencies are investigating the death of a man Tuesday at Devil’s Lake State Park just south of Baraboo. Two hikers were separated while on the West Bluff portion of the park yesterday afternoon. One hiker filed a missing person report with authorities when the other could not be located. A second group of hikers came upon the missing man and reported a possible fall along the West Bluff.  The DNR and Sauk County-area emergency responders arrived on the scene where the man was found dead just before 5 pm. The incident remains under investigation.

ST CLOUD MAN CHARGED FOR HIGH SPEED CHASE

Bond has been set at $5,000 cash for a 59-year-old St. Cloud man involved in a high-speed chase with Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies last Wednesday night. Joseph Ausloos made his initial court appearance on a felony fleeing charge yesterday.  He was also cited for three traffic violations including operating while suspended for the 10-mile chase. Deputies initially responded to a St. Cloud residence for a report of a man leaving a residence in his minivan after hitting his son. The minivan nearly struck a deputy’s squad car while leaving the driveway and a pursuit ensued. It concluded when Ausloos tried to enter a farm driveway to avoid spike strips a second deputy had put down. The minivan lost control striking a road sign and became disabled in a ditch. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 25th.

MAUI WILL BOUNCE BACK

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is confident Hawaii will bounce back from the devastating wildfires on Maui. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says he’s visited the area hardest hit Lahaina  on the west side of Maui where an estimated 12,000 people lived. He says it’s a beautiful area. He says with hundreds still unaccounted for the death toll will rise. Johnson says America always comes together over tragedies and the Maui wildfire deaths and devastation are certainly that. He says construction crews and supplies will be sent there and Congress will respond by approving a disaster aid package in addition to individual Americans and corporations that will donate to disaster relief.

LAKE PUCKAWAY LOST SEASON

State Representative Jon Plumer says due to low lake levels you can chalk up this summer on Lake Puckaway as a lost season. The state lawmaker from Lodi says a dam in Princeton that controls lake levels and an open gate coupled with the drought kept lake levels 3 to 4 feet lower than they should be. He says people weren’t able to put in their piers or boats. Plumer says he talked to a few people on the lake about a month ago. One family from Racine rents a place on the lake for a month every summer, but unable to put in their pontoon boat they will probably go somewhere else next summer. Plumer says to their credit the DNR has had representatives at every meeting he has attended about the lake level problems. He notes there was a similar situation on Buffalo Lake in Marquette County this year.

Envision Vice President of Membership and Resource Development Joe Venhuizen sat in on the workshop himself. He says like it or not AI is already here and at some point businesses large or small will have to embrace it. He says AI tools will simplify tasks, boost productivity, and aid decision-making. The presenter was Kurt Wismer who teaches Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and IT for the North Fond du Lac School District.
