After an off-day the Brewers are back in action tonight at Chicago against the White Sox. Right-hander Corbin Burnes (9-6, 3.42 ERA) starts for the Brewers against another righty Michael Kpech (5-10, 4.43). First pitch is at 7:10.
In the NL Central Thursday the Cardinals beat the Rays 5-2, and the Pirates downed the Rays 7-5. The Brewers lead the Cubs and the Reds by 2 ½ games in the division.
In the Midwest League Thursday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost at home to Dayton 9-2. They play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:40.
In the Northwood’s League the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders dropped their Eighth straight game to the Green Bay Rockers on Thursday night, 6-4, at Capital Credit Union Park. The Dock Spiders will be back at Herr-Baker Field to night as they take on the Lakeshore Chinooks. It’s the final home game of the season and Fan Appreciation Night at Herr-Baker Field. First pitch Is at 6:35.
The Packers open the preseason tonight at Cincinnati against the Bengals as the Jordan Love era beginis. Love said he expects to play at least a couple of series.
The Packers scrimmaged on Wednesday against the Bengals. Green Bay held a walkthrough Thursday prior to the game. Head Coach Matt LaFleur said the team also watched tape from Wednesday’s practice.
Coach Matt LaFleur didn’t speak after practice yesterday to give his thoughts on how the practice went, but he did speak beforehand about his excitement for the first ever joint practice on the road and how he thinks it will help build chemistry and camaraderie.
LaFleur and Bengals Head Coach Zak Taylor know each other well, as they worked together on the Rams staff in 2017. LaFleur said he liked the challenges the Bengals would give his young team.
Two weeks into camp, the pieces are starting to come into place a little bit for what the 2023 team will look like. Kickoff is at 6:00 with the pregame starting at 4:00 on FM 1023, The Bug.
The first week of the 2023 NFL preseason commenced Thursday night, with the New England Patriots hosting Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks welcoming the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans beat the Patriots 20-9 and Seahawks downed he Vikings 20-13.
The Green Bay Packers announced Thursday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be in Green Bay on Monday, Aug. 14.
Goodell will visit Training Camp at 9:30 a.m. Monday on the Fan Walkway ahead of practice. The public is invited to attend the event.
The Packers said in a statement Goodell’s visit will include remarks recognizing the community’s effort to be selected to host the 2025 NFL Draft. He will address fans on the Fan Walkway alongside DreamDrive in front of the Oneida Nation Gate, before participating in the cherished bike tradition to get to Ray Nitschke Field to take in Packers Training Camp.
Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy will welcome Goodell and speak about the Draft on behalf of the Packers and the local organizing and host committees that bid for the event. Other local leaders will be present as well to speak about the Draft’s impact on Greater Green Bay, the region and Wisconsin.
