FDL MAN PLACED ON PROBATION FOR INJURING DEPUTY

A 26-year-old Fond du Lac man accused of injuring a Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy during a struggle in the parking lot of the County’s Administration Building in Juneau last February has been placed on probation for a year. Justin Bachman pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge of resisting during a hearing last week. According to the criminal complaint deputies got a disorderly conduct call to the 1850’s Inn and later located Bachman lying in the Administration Building parking lot. He was slurring his speech and his eyes were bloodshot. Deputies and EMT’s were helping him toward an ambulance when he grew agitated. He kicked out at an EMT and deputy. A deputy’s hand was injured during the struggle.  Bachman was also ordered to write a letter of apology to the victim.

REPRESENTATIVE DALLMAN CRITICIZES GOVERNOR’S BUDGET MOVES

State Representative Alex Dallman is criticizing Governor Tony Evers for using his partial veto powers to cut a Republican proposed $3.5 billion tax cut out of the state budget. Governor Evers signed the budget into law yesterday, but reduced the tax cut to $175 million going only to families making less than $36,840 per year.  Representative Dallman says Republican led efforts to work across the aisle and with the Governor’s office in order to find compromise throughout the budget. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says, “Unfortunately, when it came down to the Governor Evers’ side of the bargain, he chose to put bureaucrats over taxpayers, DEI over our workforce, and massive tax hikes over the biggest tax cut in state history.”

RIPON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION BACKS SCHOOLHOUSE MOVE

Ripon’s Historic Preservation Commission last night unanimously approved the Little White Schoolhouse as a locally significant property at its new location at 1074 West Fond du Lac Street. Once again the Commission’s meeting began with several speakers voicing opposition to the Little White Schoolhouse’s move in April during the meeting’s public comment section. Following the Commission’s approval of the Schoolhouse as a locally significant property the Commission unanimously approved sending a letter supporting the Schoolhouse’s move to the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce which owns the Schoolhouse. A copy of the letter will also be sent to the U.S. Park Service which is reviewing the Schoolhouse’s federal historic designation. The Commission also reelected John Splitt Chair of the Commission and Matt Koski as Vice Chair.

CHALLENGING SENATOR BALDWIN

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson says there is still plenty of time for a solid Republican candidate to emerge to run against Senator Tammy Baldwin next year. Johnson says he spoke to delegates last month at the Republican State Convention in La Crosse about whether Baldwin might be vulnerable and he is hoping she is given her record of supporting President Biden and overspending. He says he hopes voters will change their history of backing Baldwin at the polls in November of 2024. He feels it is still early in game for potential opponents saying he didn’t choose to run for his first term in the U.S. Senate until May of 2010 about 6 months prior to that year’s election.
