Ozzie Albies hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to end Milwaukee’s run of bullpen dominance and give the Atlanta Braves a 4-2 victory over the Brewers on Sunday.

Albies’ 407 foot shot to left center on a first-pitch sinker from Elvis Peguero (1-3) ended a string of 28 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings by Brewers relievers. Albies’ opposite-field drive brought home Orlando Arcia and Ronald Acuña Jr., who had singled earlier in the inning.

Atlanta slugger Austin Riley went 0 for 4 to end his streak of five straight games with a homer, which matched a Braves record. Riley had gone 10 for 21 with six homers and 16 RBIs over his last five games, the first time a Braves player had that many homers and RBIs in a five-game span since RBIs became an official statistic in 1920.

The NL East-leading Braves won two of three in Milwaukee as the Brewers’ advantage in the NL Central dipped to a half-game over the Cincinnati Reds, who beat Arizona 7-3 earlier in the day for their fifth straight victory. The Brewers and Reds open a three-game series Monday in Milwaukee.

Daysbel Hernández (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win in his big league debut after getting called up from Triple-A Gwinnett earlier in the day.

Milwaukee threatened in the eighth when Willy Adames drew a two-out walk and Sal Frelick singled down the left-field line, but Ben Heller struck out Andruw Monasterio to preserve Atlanta’s lead.

Raisel Iglesias struck out the side in the ninth for his 18th save in 20 opportunities.

Travis d’Arnaud went 2 for 4 with a solo homer and a double for Atlanta. Milwaukee’s Brice Turang hit a 417-foot drive into the second deck of the right-field stands for his first homer since May 14.

The Brewers wasted a bounce-back performance from Julio Teheran, who regained his early-season form while facing the Braves for the first time. Teheran was a two-time All-Star while pitching for Atlanta from 2011-19.

Teheran had a 1.53 ERA in his first six starts after signing with the Brewers on May 25, but he entered this game having allowed 17 runs over 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts. He struck out five and gave up just three hits, one run and no walks in six innings Sunday.

Braves starter Bryce Elder also broke out of a slump while allowing two runs and four hits in six innings.

Elder posted a 2.44 ERA through his first 17 starts and received an All-Star Game selection, but he entered Sunday having yielded 12 runs over six innings in his last two appearances.

The Brewers host the Reds on Monday. The scheduled starters are RHP Colin Rea (5-4, 4.64) for the Brewers and RHP Graham Ashcraft (5-7, 5.77) for the Reds.  First pitch is at 7:10.

In other Brewers news, Brewers 1B Rowdy Tellez said he will have 17 stitches removed from his left ring finger Tuesday as he recovers from a freak injury Tellez hopes to return in time for the Brewers’ mid-August road trip that includes series with the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers.

Tellez already was on the injured list with right forearm inflammation when he was shagging fly balls in Cincinnati on July 15 and got his finger stuck in the outfield wall, ripping his fingernail off and causing a tuft fracture.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday the Reds beat the Diamondbacks 7-3. The Cubs downed the Cardinals 7-2 and the Angels over the Pirates 7-5.  The Brewers lead the Reds by one-half game in the division while the Cubs are 6 ½ out, the Cardinals 11 and the Pirates are 11 ½ games behind.

In the Midwest League Sunday Dayton won at home over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-5. The T-Rats drop to 38-50 while Dayton gets back to .500, at 45-45.   There are no games in the Midwest League today.

In the Northwood’s League Sunday the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders fell to the Rafters 5-3.  The Dock Spiders drop to 23-33 on the season, 10-11 in the second half.   The Dock Spiders will be back at home on Friday night as they take on the Lakeshore Chinooks. American Brian Harmon won The Open by five strokes Sunday at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.  Harman, the 26th-ranked player in the world, finished his surprising run at rain-drenched Royal Liverpool by carding a 1-under 70 in the final round Sunday to win the Claret Jug with a 72-hole total of 271, which was 6 shots better than South Korea’s Tom Kim, Austria’s Sepp Straka, Australia’s Jason Day and Spain’s Jon Rahm..  It was Harmon’s third career PGA victory.

On a brilliant summer Sunday under sunny skies, steady stars Fred McGriff and Scott Rolen formally entered baseball immortality. A consistent power source and a brilliant defender respectively, they became the latest inductees to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, accepting their plaques in this idyllic village and taking their places among the greatest who’ve ever played the game.

McGriff, 59, cranked 493 home runs over his19-year big league career, split among six teams. He played a key role on the 1995 World Series-champion Braves and amassed 10 seasons with 30 or more home runs and eight 100-RBI campaigns.

Rolen, 48, won eight Gold Gloves as one of the greatest defensive third basemen to play the game and starred in the 2006 World Series as the Cardinals won their first title in 24 years. He played in five postseasons, including two World Series, and was a seven-time All-Star during a 17-year career spent with four clubs.

Denny Hamlin was declared the winner of the Highpoint.com 400 at Pocono Race Sunday after NASCAR called a controversial caution on Lap 160. The race returned to green with four laps to go after a previous caution. But they were only able to race for two laps before Ryan Preece spun out on Lap 158.

Rather than call an immediate caution, race officials declined to let the race continue to play out. It wasn’t until after the white flag came out for the final lap that NASCAR called a caution, which made Hamlin the winner. Officials had typically called a caution immediately after something happened, so many fans wondered why Preece’s spin wasn’t handled the same way. NASCAR likely did not want to go into overtime to determine a winner.
