7/22/23 Body of Missing Boater Recovered on Big Green Lake

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say the body of a 36-year-old missing boater was found and recovered at 4:42 Friday afternoon. A group had been out on a pontoon on Big Green Lake when one of them went for a swim and encountered problems. A search began just after 4:30 Thursday afternoon after the County’s Communications Center received a report of a possible drowning on Big Green Lake. The search had to be cut short because of darkness on Thursday evening. It resumed Friday morning. The body of the missing boater was recovered in about 50 feet of water. The person was from outside of the area. Foul play is not currently suspected. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the recovery by the DNR, Bruce’s Legacy Search & Rescue, the Winnebago County Dive Team, and the Green Lake County Medical Examiner. The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the DNR are continuing their investigation.
