He was struck by the vehicle as it was rolling down a hill. He managed to make it into a wooded area where he was taken into custody. The man refused medical attention. A North Fond du Lac Police Officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The man was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on felony fleeing, first degree reckless endangering safety, 8 counts of bail jumping, operating while under the influence-second offense charges and is being held on the warrants. He was also cited for traffic violations. No law enforcement vehicles were damaged during the pursuit. The man had fled from Winnebago County where deputies tried to stop him for a vehicle registration violation. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Fond du Lac Police, North Fond du Lac Police, the State Patrol and North Fond du Lac Ambulance during the incident.

FIREWORKS SAFETY REMINDERS
Wisconsin Emergency Management Office is asking residents to play it safe this holiday weekend. They urge residents to obey local laws and permitting requirements for the use of fireworks and be aware of burning restrictions. Always use fireworks outside and have a bucket of water or a hose nearby. Designate a safe perimeter with ground-based fireworks be at least 35 feet away. Keep pets indoors during fireworks use. Only light one firework at a time. They also ask that you consider safer alternatives to fireworks, such as party poppers, bubbles, silly string, or glow sticks. Last year, there were 107 emergency room visits in the state for fireworks-related injuries. Nearly a quarter of those injured were children less than 18 years old. Children should never handle fireworks and should be closely supervised when they are in use. Even novelties like sparklers can burn at roughly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and easily ignite clothing and cause severe burns.
ATV UTV SAFETY REMINDERS
Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources reminds operators of all-terrain vehicles and utility terrain vehicles to think smart before they start by following safety best practices this holiday weekend. Whether riding on a road route, public trail or private property, riders are encouraged to operate at a safe speed and within their abilities, ensure the operator and all passengers wear helmets and seatbelts and ride sober. DNR officials say so far this year, 14 people have died in ATV/UTV crashes. Most of those killed were not wearing their seat belts or helmets. Several incidents also involved alcohol and speed as contributing factors. They say choosing to wear the appropriate safety gear and operating responsibly greatly reduces the chance of a serious injury or fatal crash.
