6/29/23 Police Officer Involved Shooting in Oshkosh

An Oshkosh Police officer shot a man with a rifle in the area near the Mill Street boat launch this morning. Police got a call about 6:18 am about a man carrying a loaded rifle. When officers found him, he was still carrying the rifle. They tried to deescalate the situation, but he refused to put the rifle down. Officers tried to use less lethal rounds, but he continued to hold the rifle. When he began to raise the rifle and point it at Officers an officer fired his rifle striking the man once. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not injured. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.
