From Wayne Mausser

After a day off the Brewers are back home tonight hosting the Pirates in a three-game series at American Family Field.  Milwaukee will try to break a six-game losing streak but still only trial Pittsburgh by a half-game in the NL Central.  Right-hander Julio Teheran (1-2, 1.48 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Brewers against Pirates left-

hander Rich Hill (6-5, 4.23 ERA).  First pitch is at 7:10.

There was just one game played yesterday in the division as the Cubs beat the Pirates 7-2.  Again, the Brewers are just a half-game out of first place while the Reds are a game out, the Cubs 3 ½ and the Cardinals are 8 games behind.

In the Midwest League Thursday Great Lakes won a home over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-2.  The teams play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:05 CDT.

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders win their second game in a row, taking down the Kenosha Kingfish 10-4 on Thursday night, after beating the Madison Mallards 5-1 on Tuesday night.   Both teams will be back in action tonight at 6:35 P.M. for game two of the series. Right handed pitcher Justin Doyle (Stevens Institute of Technology) will get the nod for the Dock Spiders on the mound.

The WIAA State Baseball Tournament wrapped up yesterday as  Denmark delivered on the dream, defeating St. Thomas More 3-2 in 11 innings for just the third 3-peat in WIAA baseball history.

The tournament came to a close with Hortonville falling to Whitefish Bay 5-1 in the Division 1 championship game. The Polar Bears came up just short in their quest for Hortonville’s first state title in 25 years.

Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele each shot an 8-under 62 for the best opening round in U.S. Open history on Thursday.   Fowler finished with 10 birdies while Schauffele had 8.

Branden Grace was previously the only player to fire a 62 at a major, accomplishing the feat in the third round of the 2017 Open Championship.

Prior to that, there had been only two 8-under rounds in U.S. Open history: Justin Thomas in 2017 at Erin Hills (9-under 63 in third round) and Johnny Miller in 1973 at Oakmont (8-under 63 in final round).

Fowler and Schauffele lead the field by two shots after the first round.  Dustin Johnson and Wyndham Clark shot 64’s and are two shots back while Bryan Harmon and Rory Mcilroy are three shots behind.  Scottie Scheffler was among six golfers who are five shots back while Phil Michelson shot a one-under and is seven strokes behind the leaders.

The Wisconsin Glo are back action with two games this weekend at the Oshkosh Arena against Kansas City.  Saturday night’s game is at 7:00 while Sunday’s is a 3:00 pm tipoff.  The Glo took two games from St. Louis last weekend.
