Willy Adames and William Contreras each hit two-run home runs and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-3 on Sunday to end a six-game losing streak.

Contreras opened up the scoring for the Brewers with a two-run home run in the second inning.

The Giants tied it in the second inning. Brett Wisely drove in Blake Sabol one day after hitting his first career home run. LaMonte Wade Jr. singled in Austin Slater.

Adames’ sac fly scored Christian Yelich in the third to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead.  Adames homered in the fifth for his 100th career home run to make it 5-2.

Yelich and Adames added RBI singles in the ninth. Adames finished with two hits and four RBIs.

Thairo Estrada homered in the ninth for the Giants, who ended a four-game winning streak.

Adrian Houser pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed seven hits and two runs and struck out five in his first start of the season. Joel Payamps (1-0) earned the win in relief. He struck out three in 1 2/3 innings.

Houser made his 2023 debut on Sunday after missing the start of the season because of a strained groin injury suffered during his final spring training start. He spent the past three weeks on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville, where he had a 3.07 ERA in 14 2/3 innings over four starts.

Ross Stripling (0-2) allowed seven hits, five runs and two walks in five innings. Stripling hasn’t won a start since Oct. 1 of last year when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Brewers return home after a six-game road trip and start a three-game series on Monday against the Dodgers. Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta (3-2, 3.63) is scheduled to face Tony Gonsolin (0-0, 3.38).  First pitch is at 6:40.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday the Blue Jays pounded the Pirates 10-1, the Rays edged the Cubs 5-4, the Cardinals blasted the Tigers 12-6 and the White Sox

took it to the Reds 17-4.  The Brewers trail the Pirates by a half-game in the division.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost to Peoria Sunday 3-1.  Peoria managed just four hits while the T-Rats had 5.  There are no Midwest League games scheduled for Monday.

In the NBA Playoffs Sunday the 76ers edged the Celtics 116-115 to tie their series at 2-2 and the Suns downed the Nuggets 129-124 to even their series at two games each.

Danny Hamlin outdueled  Kyle Larson with a last-lap pass to win at Kansas.

Larson finished second and William Byron, who was two laps down for more than 50 laps during the middle portion of the race, rallied to join his Hendrick Motorsports teammate in the top three. Bubba Wallace, who won the fall race at Kansas, was fourth while Ross Chastain rounded out the top five before tempers flew on pit road.

On the Men’s PGA Tour,  Wyndom Clark won the Wells Fargo Championship.  Clark shot a final-round 3-under 67 to earn his first PGA Tour victory. He finished four shots ahead of second-place finisher Xander Schauffele.

The Packers finished their final two rookie minicamp practices late Saturday inside the Don Hutson Center.

Head coach Matt LaFleur was present as Friday he had previous obligations taking part in a charity cancer event hosted by Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Greg Gard.

In his day one absence, special teams coordinator and newly named assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia ran the practice. Saturday was LaFleur’s first chance to get a look at his 13 draft picks, 11 undrafted free agents, 14 try out players and even nine returning Packers like back up quarterback Danny Etling.

Evaluating the young players on the roster while all together in the same equal setting before OTA’s begin in just over two weeks, May 22nd.

“Was fun to watch them today, watch them compete, like our first walk through mine as well been a full practice because these guys were flying around. I had to tell them after every play to slow down, speaks to the eagerness probably a little bit of the anxcts in terms of they want to leave an impression. A lot of these guys truly do look the part so it’s something to be excited about but it’s only two days. Certainly they have only seen just a small portion of our playbook but very very productive two days I think and it kind of laid the foundation for us moving forward.”
