Elías Díaz homered and drove in the go-ahead run with an eighth-inning single, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Rookie shortstop Ezequiel Tovar hit his first major league home run for Colorado, which has won its last two home games after dropping seven straight at Coors Field.
C.J. Cron led off the eighth with a double off Peter Strzelecki (2-1), and Díaz singled to bring home pinch-runner Yonathan Daza.
Justin Lawrence (1-1) worked a scoreless eighth and Pierce Johnson handled the ninth for his fourth save.
Rowdy Tellez, Brice Turang and Jesse Winker had two hits each for the Brewers.
Brewers starter Freddy Peralta returned to the place where he struck out 13 batters in his 2018 major league debut. He allowed Tovar’s homer in the third that put Colorado ahead 1-0. Peralta struck out 10 in six innings.
Díaz led off the fourth with a 453-foot blast to the concourse over left field, but Peralta worked out of a jam when right-fielder Tyrone Taylor threw out Randal Grichuk trying to score on Tovar’s flyout.
The Brewers tied it in the sixth off Ryan Feltner, who allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Christian Yelich led off with a double and later scored on a fielder’s choice. Tellez doubled and Willy Adames scored on William Contreras’ groundout.
The Brewers will send Eric Lauer (3-2, 5.19 ERA) to the mound against Kyle Freeland (2-3, 4.32) in a matchup of lefties on Wednesday night.
Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Rays beat the Pirates 4-1, the Nationals over the Cubs 4-1, the Angels beat the Cardinals 5-1 and the Reds nipped the Padres 2-1. The Brewers trail the Pirates by 1 ½ games in the division.
Joel Embiid began the long process toward NBA MVP as a towering soccer prospect in Africa who never picked up a basketball until he was a teenager. Once he changed sports for good, Embiid became a generational — albeit often-injured — talent. And, the affable center quickly became the face of the Philadelphia 76ers’ rebuilding effort more commonly known as The Process.
He embraced the nickname and is introduced before every home game as Joel “The Process” Embiid. Embiid can now add MVP.
The All-Star center and two-time league scoring champion, Embiid, who had long lobbied for the award, earned his first NBA MVP trophy Tuesday night, topping two-time winner Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.
The 29-year-old from Yaoundé, Cameroon, averaged 33.1 points to win his second straight scoring title, averaged 10.2 rebounds and tied a career high with 4.2 assists per game. Embiid has been sidelined with a sprained right knee that cost him one game of the playoff sweep against Brooklyn and the opening game of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Boston, which was won by Philadelphia on Monday night.
Jokic finished runner-up in the MVP voting, and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks was third. Embiid received 73 first-place votes. Jokic received 15 first-place votes, and Antetokounmpo got 12.
In the NBA Playoffs Tuesday night the Knicks evened their series at a game-each with the Heat 111-108 and the Lakers beat the Warriors 117-112 to take a 1-0 lead in their series.
Tonight the 76ers play at Boston with Philadelphia leading 1-0 in their series.
The Green Bay Packers will extend their new starting quarterback’s contract, according to reports from ESPN’S Adam Schefter.
NFL Network and ESPN are reporting the Packers and Jordan Love have agreed to an extension through the 2024 season. ESPN reports the extension is worth up to $22.5 million, with $13.5 million of that fully guaranteed.
The Packers extended Love’s contract rather than pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. The deadline for that decision would have been Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Love goes into the 2023 season as the Packers’ starting quarterback following last week’s trade of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Love, the Packers’ 2020 first-round draft choice, has played in 10 games, completing 50 of 83 passes for 606 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Packers will host Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots for joint practices during training camp, according to a report by The Athletic.
This will be the third time the Packers have hosted another team during camp in the Matt LaFleur era, with only the COVID-19 season in 2020 being the only exception. New England is also the third AFC team to visit Green Bay during training camp after the Houston Texans and New York Jets made the trip.
Last year the Packers hosted New Orleans for a pair of practices, and a preseason game at Lambeau Field. This year’s schedule would likely follow a similar schedule.

Fishing season is about to begin across Wisconsin. Saturday is opening day of the season on general inland waters. That includes most lakes in the state, except lakes Michigan and Superior and their tributaries, the Winnebago System lakes and waters along the state borders.
Anglers will be hitting the water in search of bass, northern pike, musky and walleye. But before heading out onto the water, there are things to keep in mind.
First is a fishing license. Licenses can be bought online or in person. The fee for an annual individual license is $20. Second is to know the weather conditions.
