DODGE COUNTY HIGH SPEED CHASE AND CRASH

For a 36-year-old Appleton man stealing a rental car and leading Beaver Dam Police officers on a high-speed pursuit came to an abrupt ending when he struck a tree on Well Road near Dodge County Highway G Wednesday afternoon. Pao Yang was flown to Aurora Medical Center in Summit. A Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy also arrested him for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs. At 3:46 pm Beaver Dam Police had tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled on U.S. Highway 151 near County Highway W. The vehicle headed south on County Highway G and officers lost sight of it cutting off the pursuit. A short time later a homeowner called 911 and reported a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Well Road. It was the same vehicle officers had been pursuing. Yang had suffered serious injuries.

SHOTS FIRED IN FDL

Fond du Lac Police recanvassed an area where shots were fired Tuesday night. No one was hurt and no property damage was reported during the original canvass of the area of South Main Street and East Pioneer Road where gunshots were heard. A caller told them to canvass the area around 20 East Pioneer Road the Pioneer Pit Stop BP and officers did find handgun casings. UNEMPLOYMENT RATES AT NEW RECORD LOWS IN APRIL

Area counties saw their unemployment rates drop below 3 percent in April with some at less than 2 percent. According to Federal Labor statistics Dodge and Winnebago counties had jobless rates of 1.8 percent, and Fond du Lac County’s was at 1.9 percent for the month. Unemployment rates in Green Lake and Waupaca counties were at 2.3 percent, and Waushara County had a jobless rate of 2.5 percent. The City of Oshkosh recorded a 1.9 percent unemployment rate for April and Fond du Lac was at 2.2 percent for the month. According to Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development 60 of the state’s 72 counties reached new record low unemployment rates for April.

FDL COUNTY MAKING PARKS IMPROVEMENTS

Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says with the county investing $600,000 this year in improvements to its county parks, they will also be hiring a county activities director for the summer. He says that person will put together 2 to 3 activities for each park. He says activities could include hiking events, crafts, music, geocaching, and more. Kaufman says parks are a way kids and families can get out of the house and enjoy activities and time together.  One of the parks targeted for improvements this year is Roosevelt Park near Taycheedah. Kaufman says they will be putting up new bathrooms, a shelter, and install a 200-foot pier.

GREEN LAKE 100 BIKE RIDE

If you planned on participating in the Green Lake 100 Metric Century Bike Ride you can save yourself $5 by registering today. The cost of registration for the Saturday, June 3rd event at Deacon Mills Park goes up tomorrow. The ride has three different distances; 23 miles or 37 kilometers, 40 miles or 64 kilometers, and 62 miles or 100 kilometers. Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Meier says they went to metric race lengths to retain the title of the race, but also because they found the 100 mile event had fewer participants and required more volunteers to stage. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Green Lake County Food Pantry and the rest will be used by the Chamber for expenses and to stage future events. In addition to the bike rides there will be a post-ride meal with food from Adam’s Rib and The Hogfather from 11:30 am to 4 pm, a raffle, and music from noon to 3 pm featuring Gaylynne Goodwill. CLASS OF 2023 GRADUATING SATURDAY

The Ripon High School Class of 2023 will bid farewell to their home for the past four years this Saturday when graduation ceremonies are held at the High School. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says between the high school and Odyssey Virtual School they have a total of 125 graduates. She notes that during their Senior Honors night a couple of weeks ago 35 of those students received a total of $42,000 in scholarship money from the Ripon Education Foundation.  She says that was thanks to a record Ripon Roar fundraising event, alumni and community donations, and estate planning. Whitrock says once again the graduation will kick off with the Caravan a tradition that began out of necessity because of the COVID-19 pandemic but now is a student favorite. The Caravan starts at 9:45 am and the Graduation Ceremony at the High School gymnasium is at 11 am.

RANDOLPH SAFE DRINKING WATER LOAN APPLICATION

The Village of Randolph is applying for funding through the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program to improve its public drinking water system. The project includes reconstruction associated with watermain, sanitary sewer and stormwater improvement along portions of Center Street, Church Street, 1st Street, Sunny Side Place and Grove Street. Activities related to the project are considered minor actions and do not require environmental analysis. The state DNR says the project will not result in significant adverse environmental effects and likely will proceed to funding. The public can submit comments to the DNR until, Monday, June 5th

FDL MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM

The Memorial Day parade and program in Fond du Lac will be held on Monday. The parade will start at 10 am at Rees and Main Streets by the Police Station, and go south on Main to Veterans Park. The Memorial Day program will commence immediately following the parade at the park. The Fond du Lac VFW Post is the host organization. The Keynote Speaker is Army Veteran and Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation Aaron Sadoff. County Executive Sam Kaufman will also speak.

THE PLUSH PATROL

The Ripon Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with the Ripon Police Department this summer to offer 14 families the opportunity to have their stuffed animal work alongside the Police Department for a day. It is being called the “Plush Patrol.” Participating families will receive updates on their stuffed animals’ adventures, whether that is patrolling the City with a police officer, supervising Police Chief Bill Wallner, or helping out the citizens of Ripon. After a hard day of work, they will receive a certificate of achievement as an honorary Police Officer. Those who would like to participate can register online at the Ripon Parks and Recreation Department website. The program is free and will run on Wednesdays from June 7th through September 6th.
