HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN WINNEBAGO COUNTY STILL BEING IDENTIFIED

Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say due to the state of the human remains found in a marshy area of Little Lake Butte des Morts last Thursday night, normal methods of identification are not possible. Working in coordination with the Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh other identification protocols are being employed. DNA, further forensic examination and other biological testing are all part of those efforts, but those procedures take time. Through other evidence associated with the remains, a potential identity of the person has been developed. The Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office met with the family of the person and they have been tentatively notified. The Sheriff’s Office will not be confirming an identity until there is physical evidence to support it. The investigation into the cause or manner of death is ongoing.

A man from northeastern Wisconsin is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on numerous charges after fleeing from a traffic stop on Interstate 41 near Johnson Street in the Town of Fond du Lac yesterday. The man drove away from the stop but a deputy was able to identify him before cutting off the pursuit. Moments later the suspect crashed his vehicle and it became disabled on County Highway N near Interstate 41. Responding deputies caught the man after he ran from the vehicle. They also searched the area where the suspect was seen running and found a bag of approximately 1,000 fake oxycodone pills. The pills are believed to be pressed fentanyl pills as the pills field tested positive for fentanyl. The man was evaluated by North Fond du Lac Ambulance for possible injuries and was then released to deputies. The man is a convicted felon with two prior convictions for heroin trafficking. Among the new charges he’s facing are fentanyl and ecstasy trafficking, first degree recklessly endangering safety. Fleeing and eluding, resisting or obstructing an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photo).

APRA FUNDING COULD BE USED ON YOUTH SPORTS FACILTIES

A couple of area cities are hoping to use some of their American Rescue Plan Act funds to make improvements for youth sports facilities. Waupun Mayor Rohn Bishop says when they host Hockey and Baseball tournaments throughout the year their hotels fill up and their restaurants see steady business. He’s pushing to see some of their ARPA funding used on the facilities the youth use for those sports. Berlin is facing about a $300,000 budget deficit and theoretically could use some of its ARPA funding to fill that gap, but Berlin Alderperson Luke Dretske says that would be a one-time fix while using the money to improve baseball and softball diamonds near the Fox River would have more of a lasting impact on the community.
