5/11/23 Georgia Man Hurt in FDL Truck Accident

11 May 2023 News

A 22-year-old state of Georgia man suffered significant injuries when the semi-tractor trailer truck he was driving flipped over on its side on the east side of Fond du Lac late Wednesday night. Police responded to the area of East Johnson Street and Wisconsin American Drive shortly before midnight. The driver suffered a compound fracture to an arm and had lost a lot of blood. Police applied a tourniquet. After Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue extricated him from the truck the man was taken to St. Agnes Hospital and was eventually flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. The preliminary investigation revealed excessive speed, unfamiliarity with the location and roundabout were contributing factors in the crash.

PROFESSIONAL AND COMPASSIONATE

Police in Fond du Lac released body camera video Thursday of officers responding to a semi that turned over on its side while negotiating a roundabout in the area of East Johnson Street and Wisconsin American Drive late Wednesday night. Officer Elijah Fuller applied a tourniquet to left arm of the truck-driver a 22-year-old man from the state of Georgia. He had suffered a compound fracture of the arm and a significant blood loss. Officer Fuller kept the driver calm by talking about the music that he was playing in the cab of the truck. Eventually he was extricated by Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue and was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Later he was flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says the video is a small example of the duties they perform with the utmost professionalism and compassion.
