4/9/23 Three Dead in Barron County Officer Involved Shooting

Three people are dead in Western Wisconsin including two police officers killed during a traffic stop in Barron County. State Department of Justice officials say it happened at 3:38 pm in the village of Cameron. An officer from the Chetek Police Department conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, gunfire was exchanged. One Chetek Police Officer and one Cameron Police Officer died at the scene. The shooter was taken to a hospital where they later died. The DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation and is being assisted by the Barron County Sheriff’s Office, Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin DNR, State Patrol, state crime lab and a DCI Crime Response Specialist. When the investigation concludes the DCI will turn over investigative reports to the Barron County District Attorney.
