4/19/23 FDL and Washington County Wildfire Arson Suspect Arrested

Each spring for many years there has been suspicious wildfires in the southeastern portion of Fond du Lac County. A joint investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Eden man suspected of setting numerous wildfires since 2020. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Randall says they identified the suspect using fire forensic science, covert surveillance systems and multiple field interviews. During a joint interview with the DNR and Sheriff’s Office the suspect admitted to igniting several fires over the last three years and to igniting wildfires in the area for nearly two decades. He is suspected of burning approximately 60 acres of land. Charges of arson and intentionally setting fire to land have been referred to the District Attorneys’ Offices in Fond du Lac and Washington counties. (DNR photo)
