PARTICIPATING IN BIG PHARMA SETTLEMENT

If approved a resolution before the Fond du Lac County Board tonight demonstrates the county’s desire to participate in a Big Pharma Opioid settlement. County Executive Sam Kaufman says the county will need to enter into a memorandum of understanding to participate in the settlement. The resolution authorizes that. The money would have to be used for opioid treatment, enforcement and related expenses. Kaufman says there is no way to know how much the county or state will get through a settlement. He says from a previous settlement they know that rather than pony up money for a settlement some Big Pharma are just declaring bankruptcy to avoid the issue. This particular settlement involves Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Allergen Finance, Walgreen’s, Walmart, CVS Health Corporation and CVS Pharmacy.
