Child Pornography Investigation In FDL

Police in Fond du Lac arrested a 28-year-old Fond du Lac man Tuesday on 10 counts of possession of child porn. Charges stem from a cybertip alleging possession and/or distribution of videos of sexually explicit conduct of prepubescent children. That subsequently led to execution of a search warrant on September 28th at a residence in the 600 block of South Main Street and the seizing of electronic devices for forensic analysis. Once the forensic examinations were complete, numerous images and videos of child pornography involving prepubescent and pubescent girls were found stored on the devices. The case has been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Menasha Police Arrest Milwaukee Homicide Suspect

Menasha Police were able to arrest a Milwaukee homicide suspect Tuesday following a car and foot chase. They were asked to assist Neenah Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office after the suspect fled from a traffic stop in Neenah. Menasha Police successfully deployed stop sticks as the suspect’s vehicle entered the city but it continued at a slow speed. Menasha Police and the State Patrol used a maneuver to disable the suspect’s vehicle and bring it to a stop. The suspect then fled on foot and a Sheriff’s K9 was deployed. But he continued to resist and Menasha Police had to use a taser on him. A handgun and other evidence were recovered from him and the scene. The suspect was turned over to Milwaukee Police. Menasha Police are referring felony fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing charges to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office.

Semi Crash in Washington County

Washington County Sheriff’s photo.

A semi-truck crashed on Interstate 41 north of Highway 145 in Washington County around 6:30 Wednesday morning. Sheriff’s deputies and the Jackson Fire Department responded to the scene. The 68-year-old man driving the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. Investigators say the semi was heading north on I-41 when it drifted into the median. It passed over cable barriers, crossed both south bound lanes and came to rest on the west shoulder on its side. Sheriff’s officials say inattentive driving appears to be a factor.

Fuhrman’s Mother Could Be Banned From Courtroom

The mother of an Oshkosh man recently convicted of stabbing a school resource officer at Oshkosh West High School could be banned from upcoming court hearings involving her son. A motion hearing was held in Winnebago County court Wednesday. Prosecutors argued that Tina Kintopf shouldn’t be allowed in court during proceedings in the case against Grant Fuhrman. Last month he was convicted of trying to kill Officer Mike Wissink at West High School in 2019.  In the motion the state contends Kintopf made threats against the prosecutor, victim, and former police officer Wissink. Prosecutors also claim she attempted to harass the jury foreperson and possibly other jurors. After Fuhrman was found guilty, Kintopf had an outburst in the courtroom. A hearing is scheduled on April 17th to decide whether she should be banned from further court proceedings involving her son. Fuhrman will be sentenced on May 1st.

Financial Sextortion

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office recently posted information on its Facebook page about a growing problem; Financial sextortion. It’s a scam in which a person is blackmailed over intimate photos of themselves they may have sent to someone else. The scammer will threaten to send naked photos to friends or family members unless they receive money from you. If it happens you are advised to stop responding to texts, block the caller, and tell someone preferably local law enforcement or even the FBI about it. What you shouldn’t do is send more images, pay any money, respond to the demand, and carry on the conversation. Even if you comply if they have your photos they may carry out the threat anyway.  The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force says 1 in 6 youth surveyed between the ages of 9 and 17 have shared a nude image.

Al Schraeder On Leaving Diverse Options

For 37 years Al Schraeder has been working to remove barriers for people. That work will continue when he leaves his job as President and CEO of Diverse Options in Ripon this Friday. He has spent 27 years with Diverse Options and prior to that spent 10 years with a similar organization Riverfront Inc. in La Crosse. He says what he is doing now was sparked by his High School Football coach. One day each week young people with barriers in their lives were allowed to swim at the school pool. The coach encouraged his players to help with that effort. In mid-December Schraeder was offered an opportunity with Opportunities, Inc. as Vice President, which is similar to but larger in size than Diverse Options. Schraeder says organizations like Diverse Options mean a lot to the people it serves and he will miss the people at Diverse Options terribly. Diverse Options formed a search committee and received a number of applications for President and CEO. Interviews will be conducted soon.

Traffic Safety Commission

They only meet on a quarterly basis, but the Green Lake County Traffic Safety Commission can play an important role in safety on the county’s highways. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk chairs the commission. He says they will hold discussions if a road be it state, county or township has an unsafe intersection or area. He says a remedy may come in the form of construction or enforcement.  He says if the solution is construction or signage they have to take it up with the proper jurisdiction about funding and practicality. But sometimes it is about enforcement or deterring bad driving behavior, which could fall on the shoulders of the sheriff’s department or if in a city the city’s police department.
