The wait for Aaron Rodgers decision on whether or not to continue playing football will continue. This as the Packers quarterback prepares to look for them in a dark place during an “isolation retreat.”
“I can’t help but think about football. It’s a love of mine. I’ve given my life to it. It’s always close to the front of my mind. I got a pretty cool opportunity to do a little self-reflection in some isolation. Then after that I feel like I’ll be a lot closer to a final, final decision,” said Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers quarterback said during his weekly appearance on the Pat McaFee Show Tuesday that he will have more clarity after participating in a four day/night “darkness isolation” retreat after the Super Bowl.
“Yeah, it’s a real thing, 100 percent. That’s why I think it’s going to be important to get through this week and then to take my isolation retreat, just to be able to contemplate all things my future. Then make a decision that is best for me moving forward in the highest interest of my happiness, and then move forward,” said Rodgers.
This past week, Rodgers was far from isolated as he participated in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California. Rodgers went on to win the event with playing partner Ben Silverman. Mixed in with the applause from the crowd was also encouragement from fans hoping the four time MVP would not just play again, but for their team. Especially Raiders fans after a tweet by former Packers teammate and current Las Vegas wide receiver Davante Adams went viral.
“I’m not a free agent. I’m under contract with Packers, number one. That gets lost in the conversation a lot,” said Rodgers. “There’s been a couple years where we got ousted by the Niners in the playoffs, and I went and played at Pebble. Those years were very razzing, I would say, from the crowd. A lot of Niner yells and a lot of other well-timed trash talk. This year was a lot more positive. The sentiment was very positive. People wanting me to get traded to their team, and the Raiders fans were probably the most vocal, and the most numerous.”
For now the answers of if, not where, Aaron Rodgers will play next season will have to wait.
The Eagles and Chiefs are getting ready for Super XVII Sunday in Phoenix. Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has finally scaled the mountain, reaching the Super Bowl. He came so close season after season with the Packers, but now does reach the big game in his first season in Kansas City.
And MVS has performed his best when the lights have been the brightest. He has had a a touchdown catch in each of the Chiefs’ two playoff wins and had a 100-yard performance in the AFC Championship Game.
The man whose hands were a big question mark in his career has become a contested catch kings and intends to make the most of this Super Bowl opportunity on Sunday night.
“Right now I am feeling it a little bit more,” Valdes-Scantling said. “It’s a lot going on as you can see. It’s a lifelong dream and I am super excited about it. It means the world. This is what we work our whole lives for. I am so excited to be here. All the hard work is paying off to be competing for the best in the world.”
But does it make it more special having to wait?
“It hurts having to lose that close every single time,” Valdes-Scantling said. “I would have rather gotten knocked out before we reached the playoff instead of losing in the (conference) championship every single time. That hurts. But being here now, none of it even matters.”
So what’s the biggest difference between playing with Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes?
“There’s not really a lot of differences,” Valdes-Scantling said. “They both are super talented, more around in the pocket great, throw the ball well, and are super competitors and winners. Everything that one has, the other has.”
This season, Valdes-Scantling had career highs in catches and targets, and finished with the 2nd-most receiving yards of his career (687).
It was a fadeaway jumper by the Lakers LeBron James- not a skyhook ode to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or one of his signature power dunks — with 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter of a 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder that sent james to the top of a mountain that Abdul-Jabbar stood on for more than 38 years at 38,387 career points.
James entered the game with 38,352 points, needing 36 to overtake Abdul-Jabbar. He finished the night with 38 points on 13-of-20 shooting (4-of-6 from 3) to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. James n ow has 38,380 career points.
Abdul-Jabbar made only one 3-pointer in his career, averaging 24.6 points in his 20 seasons and setting the all-time mark in 1,560 games played. James has evolved along with the league, ranking No. 9 on the all-time 3s list and averaging 27.2 points in his 20 seasons, catching the legendary Lakers big man in his 1,410th game.
