2/3/23 Violent Sex Offender Sent Back to New York

3 February 2023 News

A New York man whose history as a violent Sex Offender slipped through the cracks when he was hired by a trucking firm in Lomira is back in New York. Derrick Brooks’ residency at the Ameri Vu Inn and Suites and employment with Kreilkamp Trucking was terminated by the management of both entities after Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt notified them of the issue. Brooks was transported back to New York Wednesday about 24 hours after the Sheriff notified the company of the issue and put out a notification to the community. Kreilkamp contacted their background check service and learned that the State of New York and the State of California forbid an employer from asking a prospective employee if they are a convicted felon during the hiring process. Kreilkamp Trucking has adjusted their background check process as a result of the incident. Sheriff Schmidt commended Kreilkamp Trucking and AmeriVu Inn and Suites for their swift action in correcting what occurred.
