Weyauwega Man Bound Over For Trial on Double Murder Charges

The 52-year-old Weyauwega man charged with a 30-year-old double murder in Waupaca County has been bound over for trial.  Tony Haase was in court for a preliminary hearing Friday. Probable cause was found from testimony and evidence to bind him over. He is scheduled for arraignment on March 29th.   Haase is charged with the March 21st, 1992 murders of Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad.  On that Saturday the two victims were found stabbed to death at Togstad’s residence in Royalton. Prosecutors say Haase murdered Togstad and Mumbrue because he blamed Togstad’s father for his father’s death 15 years earlier in a snowmobile crash. Haase remains in jail on a $2 million cash bond.

Narcan Leave Behind Program

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says a new program they’ve partnered with Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue on is all about reducing Opioid overdoses and deaths in the county. Through the Narcan Leave-Behind program EMTs leave Narcan doses in the homes of Opioid users or their loved ones in case of a future overdose.  She says the state is very proactive when it comes to tackling the Opioid crisis and trained Fond du Lac County Health Department staff who then trained the Fond du Lac EMTs on the Narcan Leave-Behind effort. In 2014 there were 12 Opioid-related deaths in Fond du Lac County, by 2020 that number had increased to 25. Mueller says Narcan can save lives and any other EMT unit, individual or community group interested in receiving Narcan training should contact her department at 920-929-3085.

Winter Slip and Falls

A Certified Physician’s Assistant with SSM Health’s Ripon Community Hospital says during an icy day last week they dealt with quite a few wrist and hip sprains from slip and falls. Emily Strahota says despite your best efforts some days there is little you can do about icy roads, sidewalks, and driveways. She says in addition to wrist and hip there are other injuries that occur when you lose your balance and fall. Knee, back, head, dislocated shoulder, and fractured tailbones can also be suffered in a fall. She recommends if possible walk with another person, wear tied boots or shoes with good traction, take short, small steps on slippery surfaces with your feet pointed slightly outward. Strahota says if you do start to fall tuck your arms in and protect your head. If you would like to know more call SSM Health Orthopedics at Ripon Community Hospital at 920-745-3500.

Former Fond du Lac County Executive Allen Buechel will be honored today with an honorary street designation. Buechel was 74 years old when he died last March from a heart attack. He was the longest serving county executive in state history serving as Fond du Lac County Executive from 1993 to his death last March. Before that he served on the County Board for 17 years.

State Representative Alex Dallman Bills

State Representative Alex Dallman says he will continue to work on bills in this legislative session that will better the lives of residents of the 41st State Assembly District. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says a bill he has worked on with State Senator Joan Ballweg will make it a requirement that high school graduates have completed at least one financial literacy class.  He says having some understanding of how finances work will aid young people as they enter college or the workforce. A bill Dallman authored he believed would have benefitted contractors and employers would have done something about housing stock for our workforce. Although the bill got the legislature’s approval it was vetoed by Governor Tony Evers.
