More Could Be Charged For Large Drug Conspiracy
In addition to the ten people charged for a $1 million methamphetamine and fentanyl distribution ring in Fond du Lac County, others could be charged. Three of the original ten are still at large and information about them is available on the Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says 280 grams of fentanyl seized during the execution of search warrants is enough to kill everyone in the county and then some. The investigation involved local, state and federal agencies but Waldschmidt says original groundwork was done by a Sheriff’s deputy and Fond du Lac Police Officer. It is the third large drug conspiracy ring taken down in Fond du Lac County in recent years.

Inadvertent 911 Calls
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says they have been getting inadvertent 911 calls due to technology being used in newer phones and devices. New Apple iPhone 14 or newer, or an Apple Watch Series 8, SE or Ultra, have a new feature that automatically routes 911 calls to the Sheriff’s Office if the phone perceives you’ve been in a crash. The Sheriff’s Office says the problem is the phone calls their dispatch center when a person accidentally drops their phone or may take a fall while skiing or snowboarding. The phone interprets a sudden stop in movement of the phone as a potential severe vehicle crash involving the phone user. If this happens they ask that you stay on the line and speak to a dispatcher. To disable the feature on your iPhone go to settings and under Emergency SOS turn off Call after Severe Crash.

Grothman Disappointed Over Apple’s Handling Of Chinese Protests
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s disappointed an American Corporation is trying to help the Chinese Government put down protests over the country’s strict COVID-19 policies. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says Apple supposedly offered to help out the Chinese Government with protestors at one of its plants there that makes iPhones. The factory run by Foxconn has as many as 300,000 workers. In late November protests erupted at that plant as authorities struggled to contain a COVID-19 outbreak while keeping production on pace heading into the peak holiday season. Grothman says the move by Apple is not about helping America or promoting democracy, but rather financial gain. In recent days Apple accelerated its plans to move production elsewhere in Asia to India or Vietnam.

Saint Nicholas Faire
The Cathedral of St. Paul’s in Fond du Lac held their annual “Saint Nicholas Faire” over the weekend. It is styled after a traditional English Christmas market and featured Christmas cookies and candy, homemade bread and jams, custom ornaments, roasted chestnuts, mulled cider, and a silent auction. Jolene Schatzinger is the Director of Outreach, Engagement, and Mercy for the church. She says it also featured this year’s Cathedral mice which are hand sewn and each year features a different theme. This past year it was “The Gingerbread Man” and Saturday orders were taken for next year’s mouse “Oh Tannenbaum.” She says proceeds from the Faire go toward the historic preservation efforts for the church. The church is also the location for the “Broken Bread” program which distributes food to those in need each Friday from 2 to 6 pm. The program feeds 500 to 600 people a week.
