Aaron Rodgers led three fourth-quarter scoring drives and the Green Bay Packers rallied to beat the Chicago Bears 28-19.
Packers receiver Christian Watson ran for a 46-yard touchdown in the closing minutes after Jaire Alexander intercepted Justin Fields. It was Watson’s second touchdown , the first coming on a fourth-and-4 from the Chicago 14-yard line with just 17 seconds left in the first half, as he caught a contested pass from Aaron Rodgers..
Green Bay trailed 19-10 after three quarters but made enough plays down the stretch to come away with its eighth straight win over the Bears. Green Bay outscored Chicago 18-0 in the fourth quarter, improving to 5-8 on the season and keeping the slimmest of playoff hopes alive.
The Bears offense racked up more than 300 yards in the first three quarters, but the Packers buckled down when it mattered, getting a tipped field goal attempt from Dean Lowry and a game-changing interception from Jaire Alexander.
With 1:51 remaining, Christian Watson raced around the left edge and up the sideline for a 46-yard touchdown run, with Marcedes Lewis’ two-point conversion catch all but sealing the game for the Pack with a nine-point lead.
Rodgers improved to 25-5 against the Bears, including playoffs. Chicago has lost six straight.
Rodgers was 18-31 for 182 yards and a touchdown. A.J. Dillon rushed 18 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Allen Lazard caught 5 passes for 67 yards. Green Bay did not turn the ball over.
The Bears started off hot, taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 56-yard touchdown run by Justin Fields. Green Bay responded with a 24-yard Mason Crosby field goal to start off the second quarter. On Chicago’s ensuing possession, Rasul Douglas forced a Chase Claypool fumble, and Rudy Ford recovered the ball on the Green Bay 40-yard line.
The Packers were unable to turn the game’s first turnover into points on the board, as Rodgers missed a pass to Randall Cobb on a 4th and 7 attempt. After Green Bay’s turnover on downs, Fields immediately found former Packer Equanimeous St. Brown on a 56-yard pass, beating Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander on the completion. David Montgomery scored from seven yards out, but Cairo Santos’ missed point after the touchdown meant Chicago’s lead was just 13 points at 16-3, their largest lead of the game. The Bears kicked a field goal for the only points in the third quarter before the Packers came roaring back in the final quarter.
Fields’ last-ditch effort was intercepted by Keisean Nixon at the Green Bay 5-yard line, the cornerbacks’ first-career NFL interception.
The Packers now have their bye week.
Elsewhere the NFC North on Sunday the Vikkings held on at home to beat the Jets 27-22 and the Lions beat up on the Jaguars 40-14. Minnesota improves to 10-2 and is in first place in the division. The Lions are in second place at 5-7, while the Packers are in third at 5-8. The Bears are last at 3-10.
In Sunday Night Football Dallas erupted in the second half for a 54-19 win over Indianapoiis. The Colts had five turnovers. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was 20 of 30 for 170 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Tony Pollard rushed for 91 yards on 12 carries and scored twice. Eziekel Elliott added 77 yards on 17 cararies and scored a touchdown. Wide receiver Ceedee Lamb caught 5 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Colts quarterback Matt Ryan was 21-37 for 233 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times. Former Badgers star Jonathan Taylor rushed 21 times for 82 yards.
In Monday Night Football New England hosts New Orleans.
The Wisconsin Badgers football team will face Oklahoma State Cowboys in the 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 27. The game will be played in Chase Field in Phoenix, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The game is set to be televised on ESPN with kickoff at 9:15 p.m.
The Badgers finished the season 6-6 overall and 4-5 in the Big 10 Conference. losing its final game to the Minnesota Gophers. The Cowboys finished their season 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12.
UW head coach Luke Fickell said he’s excited for the opportunity for his players to take on Oklahoma State.
This will be the Badgers 21st consecutive season playing in a bowl game– the third longest active bowl streak in the country behind Georgia (26) and Oklahoma (24).
Bobby Portis scored 20 points and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Charlotte Hornets 105-96 on Saturday night, despite missing star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP, sat out with left knee soreness, one night after scoring 40 points in a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan Nwora added 17 points and Brook Lopez and Jevon Carter each scored 14 for the Bucks.
Terry Rozier led the Hornets with 26 points. Jalen McDaniels scored 21 and Kelly Oubre Jr. 20 for Charlotte, which had its three-game home winning streak halted. Mason Plumlee finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Both teams were playing the back end of back-to-back games. Both went 1-1, with Charlotte winning Friday against Washington, despite LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward missing time with injuries.
The Bucks are at Orlando on Monday night.
In World Cup Soccer Saturday the U.S. was eliminated by the Netheralnds, 3-1.
Men’s College Basketball (Sat.)
Chucky Hepburn scored 19 points shooting 7 for 10, Tyler Wahl added 15 points and Wisconsin beat Marquette 80-77 in overtime on Saturday.
Matt Klesmit scored 13 points and his lay-in over a pair of Marquette defenders with three seconds left put the Badgers ahead 79-77. The Golden Eagles had to go the length of the floor after both teams used timeouts and Wisconsin intercepted long entry passes in consecutive possessions to seal it. After the first turnover Wahl made one of two foul shots.
Reserve Connor Essegian contributed 12 points for the Badgers (8-2).
Hepburn made a deep 3 with 51 seconds left to put Wisconsin up 70-68. Out of a time out, Oso Ighodaro threw down a one-handed dunk off a pick-and-roll to tie it. Hepburn missed a deep 3-pointer with three seconds left to force the overtime at 70-all.
The Badgers (6-2) led 41-30 at halftime and scored the first-five points 45 seconds into the second half before the Golden Eagles rallied. It wasn’t until Stevie Mitchell’s layup with 1:52 left in regulation that Marquette took its first lead of the second half at 68-67.
Kam Jones scored a career-high 26 points for Marquette (6-3), shooting 9 for 12 and Prosper scored 14.
Entering Saturday’s contest, the two teams had split their last 20 games.
Wisconsin hosts No. 22 Maryland on Tuesday and the Golden Eagles face North Carolina Central on Tuesday.
Illinois College 62, Ripon College 61 (3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference)-Owen Theune scored 12 points and David DeValk had 10 to lead the Red Hawks. Ripon hosts Belioit College on Wednesday at 7:30.
UW-Stout at UW-Oshkosh 92, UW-Stout 69-The Titans improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Titans next game is at Ripon College on Saturday, December 17th at 3:00.
Women’s College Basketball (Sat.)
Ripon College 78, Illinois College 75-Ripon had four players in double figures, led by Alison Leslie’s 18 points, followed by Skylar Brescia with 16, Bonnie Jensen with 15 and Kiana Fall with 13. The Red
Hawks improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Ripon hosts Beloit College on Wednesday at 5:30.
