A father and son from Green Lake County have been charged for allegedly putting together a murder-for-hire plot against an heir to a family estate. Sixty-two-year-old Joseph Anthony Hoppa and 38-year-old Jason Hoppa both of Berlin are charged with solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide. They made their initial court appearances in Green Lake County court on Tuesday. According to the criminal complaint a County Sheriff’s deputy was called to a residence in the Town of Berlin on October 23rd. That caller said the Hoppas had offered someone money to “take out” the intended victim. The “hit man” had informed the girlfriend of the intended victim that he had met with the Hoppas at Izzy’s in Berlin, and they offered him $20,000 now and $20,000 when he took out the intended victim. The intended victim is the primary beneficiary of a family estate and Joseph Hoppa was mad he didn’t get as much from the estate. During the meeting at Izzy’s Joseph Hoppa allegedly told the intended “hit man” there is “no love here, I have no love for this kid, I don’t even like claiming him as my son. He has got to go.” Later during a second meeting with Jason Hoppa the intended “hit man” was offered a gun. When a search warrant was executed at Jason Hoppa’s property in Poy Sippi on November 30th a handgun with the serial numbers filed off was found along with a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun. Cash bond was set at $50,000 each. Preliminary hearings are scheduled next month. (Green Lake County Sheriff’s photos Josephy Hoppa pictured above, Jason Hoppa below).
