The Atlanta Braves acquired catcher Sean Murphy from the Oakland Athletics as part of a three-team deal Monday that also sent All-Star catcher William Contreras to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Oakland acquired catcher Manny Piña and pitching prospects Kyle Muller, Freddy Tarnok and Royber Salinas from Atlanta and outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz from Milwaukee. The Brewers also acquired right-handed pitchers Joel Payamps and Justin Yeager.
Contreras, who turns 25 on Dec. 24, made the NL All-Star team as a designated hitter in 2022. He batted .278 with 20 homers, 45 RBIs and an .860 OPS while making 57 starts at catcher, 31 at designated hitter and one in left field.
The Bucks are back in action tonight hosting the Golden State Warriors. Milwaukee is 19-7 and a game behind Eastern Conference leader Boston. Golden State is 14-13 in the Western Conference. The Bucks are coming off a 97-92 loss at Houston Sunday night as Giannis Antetokounmpo was held to just 16 points.
In Monday Night Football the Patriots helped their playoff chances with a 27-13 win at Arizona. The Cardinals not only lost the game but may have lost quarterback Kyler Murray for the season. He suffered a non-contact knee injury and was subsequently carted off the field.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the fear is Murray suffered a serious injury, and an MRI and other tests are forthcoming. Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury said it “doesn’t look good,” but the team would know more in the morning.
Murray scrambled and went down following a 3-yard run on the third play from scrimmage. He was initially designated as questionable to return, but the scene was grim and he was ruled out soon after. Surrounded by teammates, Murray was transported off the field and could be seen with tears in his eyes before covering his head with a towel. He was replaced by Colt McCoy
The Patriots Mac Jones was 24 of 35 for 235 yards and an interception while running backs Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris each scored rushing touchdowns.
The Cardinals Colt McCoy was 27 of 40 for 246 yards and was picked off once. James Connor rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
New England improves to 7-6 and in a tie for third place in the AFC East with the Jets. Arizona falls to 4-9.
In men’s World Cup Soccer action today, Croatia plays Argentina in a semi-final match.
