State Treasurer And Secretary Of State Races
As Tuesday’s General Election crept into Wednesday morning results were tight in a couple of state races. Incumbent Secretary of State Doug La Follette and Republican challenger Amy Loudenbeck each received 48 percent of the vote with La Follette holding a 6,000 plus vote lead. In the State Treasurer race Republican John Leiber received 50 percent of the vote to 48 percent for Democrat Aaron Richardson. Andrew Zuelke of Ripon running as a Constitution Party candidate got over 56,000 votes.
State Assembly Races
State Representative Jon Plumer will serve a third term representing the 42nd State Assembly District. He received 60 percent of the vote in his race against Democratic challenger Theresa Valencia. Republican Incumbent Kevin Petersen will continue representing the 40th Assembly District easily defeating Independent challenger Henry Fries with 75 percent of the vote. The 52nd State Assembly District will continue to be held by a Republican. The seat formerly held by Jeremy Thiesfeldt was won by Jerry O’Connor who got 62 percent of the vote to Democrat Joe Lavrenz’s 38 percent. The 54th will continue to be held by a Democrat. That seat recently represented by Gordon Hintz went to Oshkosh Mayor Lori Palmeri who received 54 percent of the vote in her race against Republican Donnie Herman. Nate Gustafson, a Republican, will represent the 55th. He picked up 55 percent of the vote in his race against Democrat Stephanie Holt.
School District Referendums Passed
Voters said yes to the school district referendums in Ripon, Waupun, and Waupaca Tuesday. Ripon Area School District voters were asked to allow the school district to exceed its revenue cap by $850,000 a year for six years. Fifty-nine percent of the voters said yes. Waupun was asking permission to exceed its revenue cap by $980,000 a year for three years and 59 percent said yes. In the Waupaca Area School District voters were asked to allow the district to borrow $3.8 million to make safety improvements at schools including secure entrances. They approved that request with 70 percent voting in favor of it. Moraine Park Technical College asked voters for permission to borrow $55 million for four major improvement projects attached to its campuses in Fond du Lac, West Bend, and the Beaver Dam area. Fifty-nine percent of those voters said yes.
Good Turnout For The General Election
Tuesday’s General Election saw a strong voter turnout. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says 47,086 votes were cast in the county or a turnout of about 79 percent of the registered voters. There was a similar number in Green Lake County with 8,775 voters participating or 78 percent of registered voters. The Winnebago County Clerk’s office says nearly 75,000 ballots were cast in the county yesterday. In Waupaca County the most votes were cast in the Governor’s race with over 23,000 votes for the candidates. In Waushara County 60 percent of the registered voters cast their ballots in the General Election, that amounted to 11,416 voters participating.
