Green Lake County Supervisor Luke Dretske says once all the applications are in the Administrative Committee will pick the top candidates and a meet and greet will be scheduled with the public to meet those candidates before the County Board ultimately picks the County’s next administrator. He says there may be some overlap or transition between the two administrators, but he’s hoping the County’s next administrator can come in and make their own changes so the office is better run. The County is using a search firm from Whitewater in its search for an administrator.

Code Red
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office invites county residents to sign up for the CODE RED emergency notification system. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk says it can notify you about emergency situations such as severe weather, 9-1-1 outages, or if there is a dangerous individual they are dealing with that might require residents to shelter in place. He says it is simple enough to sign up by going to the county’s website and clicking on the “Quick Links” toward the bottom of the homepage. Once there it will ask if you want a managed account which would allow you to customize what types of notifications you would like to receive or if you would prefer to enroll as a guest.

Senator Johnson On COVID Response
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson says he’s disappointed in the way that the COVID epidemic was handled in our country. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says our response was botched taking its toll on the economy, vaccine mandates failed, early treatment was sabotaged, and children’s health and education suffered. He feels Sweden did the right thing by not shutting down schools where no children died of COVID. Johnson says he has criticized the response and questioned why other forms of treatment weren’t offered, but that led to him being censored by social media. Johnson, a Republican, is being opposed in the General Election in November by Democratic Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes.
Pedestrian Safety Month
The State Patrol is reminding motorists to be on the lookout for pedestrians walking to bus stops, entering or exiting a building, on their way to or from school, or just out for a walk. Fifty-three pedestrians on average are killed and about 1,300 are hurt in crashes every year in Wisconsin. A pedestrian is injured every 10 minutes in crashes across the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan says, “Dusk starts to arrive earlier this time of year, which makes it harder to see pedestrians who are out walking.” This month is National Pedestrian Safety Month. Drivers are also reminded that children will be trick-or-treating later this month for Halloween.
