According to the Manitowoc County Historical Society the building dates back to the 1800s. The tavern is closed until further notice.

Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say they recently took a complaint from a resident saying she had gotten a call from someone identifying themselves as being a sheriff’s deputy. The caller told the woman that she needed to go to the Sheriff’s office to sign a bond and that if she did not there would be serious ramifications. Catalytic Converter Thefts
The Chief Deputy for the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the county has been fortunate so far to avoid the catalytic converter thefts that have been reported across the nation. Matt Vande Kolk urges residents to park inside or in well-lit areas at night. He also recommends parking within view of a door-bell camera if you have one or even setting up a trail cam focused on your vehicle. He also suggests giving their office a call if you see something that looks out of place or someone acting suspiciously. Vande Kolk says like most crimes catalytic converter thefts are a crime of opportunity, but things have gone too far when those types of thefts can shutdown busing for a school district. Last month the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of catalytic converter thefts and car entries.
Input On Community Health Improvement Plan
Fond du Lac County residents will have three opportunities over the next few days to offer their insights on three of top health needs identified in last year’s Community Health Assessment Report. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they are in the process of putting together the next three-year Community Health Improvement Plan and need residents’ thoughts about Mental Health, Chronic Disease and Substance Use. The first two sessions will be at Marian University’s Stayer Center in Fond du Lac from 7 to 8:30 am today and tomorrow. They will tackle Mental Health and Chronic Disease respectively. The final session on Substance Use will be at Ripon College’s Pickard Commons from 8 to 9:30 am on Thursday. Mueller says the Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County use to focus on alcohol and substance abuse, but with so many efforts targeting opioid abuse they now focus more an alcohol abuse.
Political Forums Becoming More Difficult To Stage
A member of the League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area says it is becoming harder to stage political forums with candidates that are running for office. Ellen Sorensen says earlier this year five different league entities tried to pool together to do a forum with Republicans running against each other for state offices before the primary election. They were unable to do it because some candidates chose not to participate. Sorensen says the League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area tried to do the same thing with candidates running for the 42nd State Assembly seat in November since Ripon will no longer be part of the 41st State Assembly District. She says both candidates are from Lodi and voters in the area might not be familiar with them, but one of the candidates declined the invitation. Sorensen says the League won’t hold empty chair forums because it then appears they may be favoring one candidate over another. Republican Jon Plumer currently represents the 42nd State Assembly District. His Democratic challenger is Theresa Valencia.
