10/23/22 Ballweg Recognized As Economic Development Champion

23 October 2022 News

Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) recently presented State Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) with the organization’s 2022 “Champion of Economic Development” legislative award for her leadership on legislative initiatives to drive economic growth and prosperity in Wisconsin.

“Senator Ballweg is a true ‘Champion of Economic Development’, as her leadership on key issues has produced real results that are moving Wisconsin’s economy forward. WEDA is thrilled to recognize and celebrate her work” said Michael Welsh, WEDA V.P. of Legislative Affairs. “From rural broadband expansion to talent attraction and other workforce development initiatives, her efforts in the State Capitol during the 2021-22 legislative session are helping to address Wisconsin’s top economic challenges.”

The “Champion of Economic Development” award is presented at the end of each legislative session to state lawmakers who demonstrate extraordinary support for important economic development policies. This year WEDA is presenting the award to 20 state lawmakers who exhibited an exceptional commitment to growing Wisconsin’s economy based on several factors, including voting record, sponsorship of legislation, and responsiveness to critical economic development issues.

Sen. Ballweg earned the “Champion of Economic Development” designation for her important work on a wide range of legislation aimed at boosting the state’s economy, including talent attraction funding to help address the state’s workforce shortage crisis, extensive investment in rural broadband expansion, preservation of the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit, and efforts to increase the development of much-needed workforce housing across the state.

Ballweg, who was first elected to the Wisconsin Senate in 2020 after serving eight terms in the Assembly, represents the 14th Senate District, which includes numerous counties in central Wisconsin, stretching from Columbia County up to Waupaca County in the northern most part of the district. She serves as the Chair of the Senate Agriculture and Tourism Committee and is a member of the Legislature’s powerful Joint Finance Committee.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Association, founded in 1975, is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to growing Wisconsin’s economy. Driven by the needs of our members, we represent the economic development interests of both the private and public sectors through professional development, best practices, and advocacy.
