Ripon Woman Charged With Hit And Run

Ripon Police have signed a complaint against a 34-year-old Ripon woman who was involved in a hit-and-run accident near the Kwik Trip Store on the east side of Ripon on October 3rd. The victim told police he was driving past the Kwik Trip store on East Fond du Lac Street when an SUV exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed.  There was a semi parked between the two driveways of the store and he had nowhere to go. The victim said he veered to the left and struck the driver’s side rear of the SUV. The SUV’s driver Christina Magin (pictured above) stopped momentarily. She told officers she left the scene when she saw the victim get out of his vehicle because she was wanted on a warrant. Magin was also recently charged for methamphetamine possession. She’s free on a $500 signature bond and has a preliminary hearing this afternoon.

A 31-year-old Horicon man suspected of causing an accident that led to the death of three people was arraigned on vehicular homicide charges in Washington County court Wednesday. Thirty-year-old Casey Lynn Schwartz of Mayville was heading south on State Highway 164 at Elmwood Road when her vehicle was rear-ended by Bruskiewicz’s vehicle. House Fire Displaces Three In FDL

Fond du Lac firefighters were called to an attic fire in the 400 block of North National Avenue just after 9:30 last night. Fire and Rescue officials say a resident noticed smoke coming from the roof while he was outside. He went back into the home and tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher but couldn’t due to the extent of the blaze. When firefighters arrived there was a significant amount of smoke coming from the roof. Everyone was safely evacuated from the home. The blaze caused extensive damage to three rooms, the attic, and the roof. No one was injured but the fire displaced two adults, a child, and a pet. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fentanyl Test Strips Available

The state’s Department of Health Services recently announced the distribution of 126,600 fentanyl test strips to organizations across the state to help prevent drug overdose deaths. Drugs mixed with fentanyl are the leading cause of overdose deaths in Wisconsin. Fentanyl test strips are dipped into drug residue dissolved in water. Within minutes, a person can know whether the drug contains fentanyl. A tiny amount-as little as two grains of salt-is enough to kill someone. Fentanyl is present in many drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, as well as pills made to resemble prescription medications. Fentanyl is unable to be detected by sight, taste, smell or touch. Health Departments in Dodge, Green Lake, Fond du Lac, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago Counties have the fentanyl test strips.

Business Technology

Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mandy Kimes says it is difficult for many businesses to keep up with the latest technology and social media. She says they are so busy so that’s why the Chamber tries to offer information opportunities to learn about those particular tools. She feels a business’s growth can be stunned if they don’t have the proper knowledge and tools. During the height of the pandemic businesses found out how important their websites can be. Kimes says it is for some a first impression and being user-friendly and easy to navigate is important. She says that’s something they aim for with their own website.
