FDL Shooting Incident

Fond du Lac Police are investigating their fifth shooting incident in the city in a little more than 45 days. The latest occurred early Thursday morning just before 1:30 am in the area of the 200 block of 6th Street. There were reports of possible gunshots. Police canvassed the area speaking to several people that heard the shots. Handgun casings were found on 6th Street east of South Park Avenue. There was property damage to two residences, but no injuries were reported. Since July 29th Fond du Lac Police have reported at least five shooting incidents including the murder of 40-year-old Brandon Johnson on August 20th.  Thirty-two-year-old Timothy Brown of Fond du Lac is charged with first degree intentional homicide in that shooting. He was bound over for trial during a preliminary hearing last Friday. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $1 million cash bond. 

Semi Fire On Interstate 41 In FDL

Firefighters in Fond du Lac were able to save a semi-trailer and its contents Thursday afternoon during a fire on Interstate 41. It happened shortly after 1:30 pm on I-41 southbound, just south of the Highway 151 overpass. The semi’s cab was on fire. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate for a little over an hour while the fire was being extinguished. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue issued a statement thanking drivers who had to be rerouted for their patience.

Fox Crossing Man Sentenced For Hiding A Corpse

The 45-year-old Fox Crossing man who hid the corpse of a female roommate after she overdosed from drugs has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison and 2 ½ years of extended supervision. Erik Averbeck apologized before he was sentenced in Winnebago County court Thursday. Judge Scott Woldt said what Averbeck did was not acceptable and noted Averbeck’s history of drug and criminal issues. According to the criminal complaint last December 15th the Department of Corrections contacted a Fox Crossing detective with information about the overdose death of a woman on Fatima Street. The DOC and police executed a search warrant at the home in Fox Crossing and found a woman’s body in the basement. Averbeck told DOC officers he found the victim the night before.  He admitted he wrapped the body in a tarp. An autopsy determined the woman died of an overdose and fentanyl was present in her body. Averbeck pled “no contest” to a hiding a corpse charge in May.

Horicon Now Allowing ATV And UTV Use In The City

The City of Horicon opened up to use of ATV and UTVs in the city Thursday. Signage for designated routes was installed by the city’s Department of Public Works Wednesday and more signage will be installed by Dodge County next Monday. The Horicon Police Department also posted information about the city ordinance allowing use of ATV and UTVs in the city on its Facebook page. Among the critical points in the ordinance you have to be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license and DNR safety certificate. No ATV or UTV will be allowed to operate in the city between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am. Protective head gear is required of operators and their passengers. No person can operate a UTV unless the driver and passenger wear a safety belt. The ordinance also prohibits those operating an ATV from going more than 25 miles an hour within the city.

ARPA Funding Allocations Accepted

The Fond du Lac County Board approved three resolutions this week accepting American Rescue Plan Act funding allocations given to the county by the state. County Board Executive Sam Kaufman says just over $96,000 will be used by the Sheriff’s Department for the purchase of mobile data computers that will be installed in the Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles. Two separate resolutions will use a total of more than $157,000 in ARPA funding to purchase software so the County can integrate two of its systems with a new Cloud storage system.

Trail Closed During Bridge Maintenance

A portion of a multi-use trail that spans the Wisconsin River on State Highway 73 in Nekoosa will be closed next Monday through Friday and again on Monday, September 26th through Wednesday, September 28th. The trail will be open Saturday and Sunday of next week. Crews will be repaving the asphalt and replacing the guardrail on State Highway 73 on the south end of the bridge. The bridge will be open to vehicle traffic with only the trail being closed.  Construction is scheduled to be completed Wednesday, September 28th.  The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.

Senator Ballweg Recognized For Pro Growth Voting Record

Senator Ballweg receives the Working for Wisconsin Award at AF Gelhar in Markesan

The combined state chamber of commerce and manufacturers’ association presented State Senator Joan Ballweg with a Working for Wisconsin Award. The state legislator from Markesan was honored for her work during the most recent legislative session. The award recognizes legislators who supported specific pro-growth policies and earned a high rating on the WMC’s biennial legislative scorecard. Working for Wisconsin Award winners must receive at least a 70 percent rating on the WMC Legislative Scorecard. Senator Ballweg was presented with the award Wednesday at AF Gelhar in Markesan.

Septemberfest Tomorrow In Ripon

Septemberfest kicks off in Downtown Ripon bright and early at 7 am Saturday with a pancake breakfast on the Village Green and runs through the early evening capping things off with the animated film “Cars” also on the Village Green. In between there is the Watson Street Car Show, performances by the Tuba Dan Band and The Presidents, a Mascot Dance Party, a bike stroll out to Vines & Rushes Winery, and plenty of food and beverages. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mandy Kimes says at 10 am they will have a Chalk Walk with plenty of other activities for the kids. Car Show Contest

In addition to all the classic cars on display during tomorrow’s 23rd Annual Watson Street Car Show in Downtown Ripon there will be a chance for those attending to win a special raffle. Howard Stibb is one of the organizers for the show which drew 220 classic cars last year. He says one unique car will be on display in front of the Ernessi Farms location. For a buck people can guess what it is and those who are right will be entered in a 50/50 drawing with the winner getting half and a local charity the other half. Stibb says the car will keep people guessing. The Car Show runs from 8 am to 3 pm Saturday during Septemberfest.
