Ripon Common Council Notes

The Ripon Common Council approved a nearly $55,000 bid from Speedy Clean to clean and televise 56,000 feet of the city’s sewer line. That’s about a quarter of the entire city sewer system. City Administrator Adam Sonntag said they should have a certain amount of the line cleaned every year, but can’t afford to televise it annually to find blockages, leaks and root intrusion. The bid was the lowest of three received by the city. Speedy Clean also did some sewer cleaning for the city in 2019. The Council also approved an ordinance and an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of North Fond du Lac that will allow the expansion of Lakeside Municipal Court. Four new members of the court include the Fond du Lac County Towns of Auburn, Calumet and Friendship, and the Sheboygan County Town of Wilson. As a participant in the court the city of Ripon needs to approve changes in its membership.

Oshkosh West High School Threat Investigated

Oshkosh Police increased their presence at Oshkosh West High School Wednesday after they were made aware of images on social media circulating and indicating a vague threat.  They learned of the threat Tuesday night and the school’s resource officer immediately began coordinating an investigation with the cooperation of the Oshkosh Area School District to identify sources of the information. Interviews were conducted with several students and information was shared with surrounding agencies. It was determined the images did not originate in the area. Similar shared images also sparked investigations in Appleton and North Fond du Lac area schools.

Keeping College Costs In Check

State Representative Alex Dallman says you can still receive a college education and come out of it with less debt and a better-paying job. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says technical colleges can provide the training and education needed to make a good living as a skilled laborer. He says for their part legislators have kept the University of Wisconsin system in check on tuition increases, but a four-year degree or more can get really expensive. Dallman points out there are a number of scholarships available as students come out of high school, but some of them are career-specific and not every student graduating from high school has a high GPA.
