Charges Referred Against FDL Stabbing Suspect
Charges of attempted homicide and first degree recklessly endangering safety have been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office against a 31-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected in a stabbing last month in the city. The victim was a 40-year-old Fond du Lac man. The victim was attacked outside of the Press Box Tavern just before 2 am on Saturday, August 6th. The victim was cut with an edged weapon multiple times and was treated at St. Agnes Hospital. Police and detectives developed a person of interest in the case and he was taken into custody on an unrelated probation violation on August 8th and has been in custody ever since.
Dodge County Chase Suspects Charged
Two men involved in separate traffic chases in Dodge County over the weekend made their initial court appearances Monday. Bond was set at $5,000 cash for 32-year-old Richard Hron and $10,000 cash for 42-year-old Brian Hellenbrand (pictured) of Columbus. Hron’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 20th and Hellenbrand’s for September 22nd. Both are charged with felony eluding and numerous traffic violations. Hron is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and Hellenbrand with OWI 5th or 6th, three counts of felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of operating after revocation.
FDL Teen Suspected Of Secretly Recording Teenage Girls
Dodge County prosecutors are charging a 19-year-old Fond du Lac man who allegedly used a cell phone to secretly record teenage girls in a bathroom at a Lomira farm. The farm’s owner contacted authorities last Wednesday reporting two girls employed by the farm were recorded by a phone in a bathroom. It was found hidden in a pair of shoes under a sink. The owner named Roberto Cardoza as a suspect. According to the criminal complaint Cardoza told investigators he left the phone in the bathroom to charge it. He denied leaving it there to record anyone. Multiple videos of the farm’s locker room were found on the device. Bond was set at $300 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled on October 13th.
ATV And UTV Ordinance For Ripon Sent Back For Changes
The Ripon Common Council took a tabled ordinance for ATV and UTV use in the city off the table last night and gave it a good discussion. Alderperson Jolene Schatzinger suggested several changes to the proposed ordinance and those will be made to the draft and brought back to the Council in about two weeks. At that time the Council will consider an ordinance for both ATV and UTV use and one that would be for UTV use only. Several Council members said they were not in favor of allowing ATV use. Schatzinger also recommended giving the ordinance a one-year trial if it is passed to see how it works out. Five people spoke about the issue during the public comment section of the meeting including Candie Baker the President of Webster’s Marketplace who said the use of ATV and UTVs in the city would be a great opportunity for businesses in Ripon.
Ripon Water Main Break
A water main break caused an unexpected water outage around four city streets in Ripon Tuesday. The break was reported just before 10:30 am and service was restored at approximately 1:30 pm. The areas of Houston Street, Water Street, Seward Street and Blossom Street were affected by the outage. In a post on its Facebook page the city apologized for the inconvenience.
New County Communications And Emergency Management Director
After 20 years as a firefighter, the last 8 years as Waupun’s Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director, B.J. DeMaa is preparing for a different role with Fond du Lac County. The County Board last night approved his appointment as the county’s next Communications and Emergency Management Director succeeding Bobbi Hicken who left last Friday for a job in private industry. DeMaa says although there are a lot of responsibilities with the county job it will give him more time with his family. He says his family is excited about that. Being on-call will still be part of his job, but he says there will be less of that than there was with the city of Waupun. DeMaa starts his new job with the county on October 2nd.
Ignite Ripon Meeting Tonight
Budding entrepreneurs in the Ripon area are invited to participate in Ignite Ripon. The new group held its first meeting last month and its second is tonight at 6:30 pm at J’s BBQ in the other side. Brice TerBeest and Abby Faul started the group they say is a place to learn, teach, and grow your skill set as a current or future business owner. TerBeest started his own business Pericles Financial Services a little over a year ago. He says your welcome to tonight’s meeting even if you just want to sit quietly and learn more. Tonight’s meeting will focus on financial skills. Snacks and nonalcoholic beverages will be available during the Ignite Ripon meeting.
ThedaCare Modernization
Construction work continues at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah as part of the $100 million investment to modernize the hospital campus, while enhancing and expanding services. The modernization will transform health care for all those living in the region and allow ThedaCare to continue its commitment to keeping care local in the Fox Cities. Since the groundbreaking this past spring, construction crews have been busy both outside and inside the hospital working on multiple components of the transformation. The next phase of construction will include the Family Birth Center and Women’s Health areas. The full modernization is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.
Mercury Racing Groundbreaking Held
Mercury Racing held a ground-breaking ceremony Tuesday for its manufacturing operations plant expansion, which will help meet global customer demand. The two-phase construction project will add 40,000 square feet of manufacturing operations space to the southwest corner of the existing Fond du Lac facility and expand the current propeller shop by 8,000 square feet on the north side of the building. The project will bring the Racing facility to nearly 150,000 square feet. Construction of the manufacturing operations space is expected to be finished by April 2023 with the propeller shop completed by October 2023.
Senator Johnson Staff Hours
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson’s staff will be available in several locations for mobile office hours next week. Both sessions will be on Thursday, September 22nd. The first is at the Portage County Library in Stevens Point in the Rose Room from 9 to 10 am. The second will be at the Readfield/Caledonia Community Center in Readfield in Waupaca County from 11 am to Noon. The office hours give constituents the opportunity to meet with Senator Johnson’s staff to request assistance with a federal agency or other federal matters.
