FDL Man Convicted Of Reckless Homicide In Drug Overdose Death

A 43-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected in the Fentanyl overdose death of a woman at a rooming house in Fond du Lac pled no contest Thursday to a first degree reckless homicide charge. Robert Harris (pictured) will be sentenced in Fond du Lac County court on November 21st. Two other charges were read into the record and dismissed. Harris provided the drug to the woman that led to her death on May 31st of 2020. According to the criminal complaint 911 wasn’t called until two hours after the victim was dead and a witness said someone at the rooming house tried to use Narcan to try and revive the victim, but she was probably already dead. District Attorney Eric Toney says, “Fentanyl and opioids are killing people at historic rates and destroying families in communities across Wisconsin.”

Dismissal Of Lawsuit Against Dodge County Appealed

Dodge County attorneys yesterday filed a brief responding to an appeal of dismissal of a lawsuit filed by a man seeking $5 million in damages for the time he was held in the County jail on a deportation order. In March a Federal judge in Milwaukee dismissed all claims made against Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt, Sheriff’s investigator Robert Neuman, and various federal agencies made by Selepri Amachree in an immigration lawsuit originally filed in the Northern District of Illinois in June of 2018. According to the judge’s decision Amachree was unable to support any claims against Dodge County or Sheriff Schmidt. Amachree, an African immigrant, has lived in the U.S. for 50 years. He was taken into custody on February 27th, 2017 at the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office in Juneau and spent six months in it. His detention was related to an order to deport him as part of a drug conviction.

Dodge County Sheriff’s officials arrested a 42-year-old Mazomanie woman early Wednesday morning at a trailer park in Waupun. Autumn Gernon was yelling for help. Authorities had been seeking her since just before 7 pm Monday night when she fled from a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 151 at Redwood Road in the Town of Trenton. During the pursuit she lost control and struck a Sheriff’s sergeant’s squad car crashing into a cornfield on Milligan Road. She then fled on foot into the cornfield. A K-9 and drone unit were used in a search, but were unable to locate her. She was seen in Waupun Tuesday afternoon, but wasn’t found until taken into custody at Landall’s trailer park the following morning. Multiple charges including fleeing an officer have been referred to the Dodge County District Attorney’s Office.

FDL County Chase Suspect Charged

Bond has been set at $10,000 cash for a 39-year-old Seymour man who led Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies on a brief traffic chase Saturday night on Interstate 41. Jason Doxtator was in court via video conferencing Thursday for an adjourned initial appearance on felony charges of fleeing an officer, car theft, and bail jumping. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Friday. The General Motors Company which was tracking the chase was able to cut it short by remotely disengaging the vehicle’s accelerator. Deputies then performed a high risk traffic stop to take Doxtator into custody. The pursuit was only 1.5 miles. No one was injured and no property damaged during the chase.

Furniture Scam

Marshfield Suspects

Marshfield Police are warning furniture outlets about a couple that fraudulently purchased over $28,000 in furniture and may be pulling the same scam throughout the state. On Wednesday and Thursday 28-year-old Timothy Litt used a credit card at Mall Furniture in Marshfield. He gave a pin number to the sales person to force the transaction through the credit card reader and provided a photo ID. The furniture was then loaded into a white Penske rental truck he was using. Litt and the woman with him, who gave the name Antionette Williams, tried to purchase merchandise at a different furniture store, but the sales person did not force the transaction through the credit card reader and didn’t allow the sale. The truck they were using had an Indiana license plate #2973520 and the truck number was 9167988.

CDC Criticized Over Handling Of The COVID Pandemic

On Wednesday results of an internal review were released about how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention handled the COVID-19 pandemic. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker formerly of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says one major criticism is that the CDC was slow to react while waiting until they were absolutely confident in their data before issuing guidelines and recommendations. He says the other major criticism has been that the CDC passed on information about the coronavirus at a level that doctors could understand, but not the general public. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky had ordered the review.
