Name Released In Fatal FDL County Accident
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the 34-year-old St. Peter area man that was killed when his truck went off of County Highway W early Sunday morning and crashed. Sheriff’s officials say Justin Lindberg was heading north and failed to negotiate a curve at County Highway WH. His truck went into the ditch and became airborne. It traveled across County Highway WH and landed on the north side of that road where it rolled over several time ejecting him. Lindberg was the only occupant of the truck and died at the scene. Contributing factors in the crash included alcohol, speed, and lack of seatbelt use. The accident in the Town of Marshfield was reported just before 2:30 am.
Hearing Delayed Again For Waupaca County Murder Suspect
For a second time a hearing has been delayed for the 51-year-old Weyauwega man charged with a 30-year-old double murder in Waupaca County. Tony Haase appeared via video conference for his court appearance and asked for more time to find an attorney. He was given until next Monday. Haase is charged with the March 21st, 1992 murders of Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad. On that Saturday the two victims were found stabbed to death at Togstad’s residence in Royalton. DNA taken from a pen Haase used during a traffic stop led to his arrest. Prosecutors say Haase murdered Togstad and Mumbrue because he blamed Togstad’s father for his father’s death 15 years earlier in a snowmobile crash. Haase told the judge he is meeting with a lawyer tomorrow. He remains in jail on a $2 million cash bond.
Deputy Scam
Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt is advising residents that someone posing as a “Deputy Morris” from his department is trying to scam people out of their money. The ersatz deputy is calling people and telling them they have an outstanding warrant and requests they pay for the warrant through non-governmental services. Waldschmidt says it is a scam and people should just hang up. Sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify the scammer, but chances of doing that are slim. Waldschmidt says they do not call people with warrants to notify them, they send deputies to locate them and take them into custody. Waldschmidt recommends reporting to law enforcement if you have been victimized by a similar scam. He also urges residents to check on the authenticity of the caller by asking the caller the name and agency they are with and then tell them you would like to hang up so you can call that agency’s dispatch center so you can reconnect with them if they are making a legitimate call.

Ripon Considers Participation In State Health Insurance Program
The Ripon Common Council Monday night approved a resolution to be included in the Wisconsin Public Employers’ Group Health Insurance Program. City Administrator Adam Sonntag informed the Council that they are still looking at other insurers but the city had problems getting quotes last year and they are looking at a 49 percent increase in premium costs this year. To participate 42 of the city’s 54 full-time employees would need to participate in the state health insurance program. Mayor Ted Grant said under the state program premiums would be more expensive but overall it is a better plan. Sonntag said there would be surcharges the first two years of the program but not after that. The Council could opt to rescind the resolution if the city can find a better program or not enough employees agree to participate in the state plan. The Council also approved limited bow hunting in the city for “Team Ripon.” Over the 15 years of the program bow hunters have harvested 188 deer in the city limits including six in 2021.
MPTC Referendum
If voters in the Moraine Park Technical College District approve a $55 million referendum on the November 8th ballot it will allow the college to borrow funds to update and expand Moraine Park facilities. That would be accomplished through four major projects between 2022 and 2025. Moraine Park President Bonnie Baerwald says two of those projects would on their Fond du Lac campus. It would include infrastructure work for the automation, innovation, and robotics center and to renovate their manufacturing and trades wing. The other project on the campus would be a revamp of their Health and Human Services wing, which would include a health simulation suite. Other projects would include a major addition to the manufacturing, automation and robotics program on their West Bend campus and construction of a Fire Training Center in Dodge County.
Lower Mill Rate For RASD
Whether or not voters approve an operational referendum for the Ripon Area School District in November the mill rate for the District will be at a record low point. Some of the factors in lowering the mill rate include increased state aid in the second year of the state budget, higher property values in the District, and the closing of a Tax Incremental District that will add $14 million in property value in Ripon. District Business Manager Jonah Adams says if the referendum is passed the mill rate would go from $8.27 to $8.15 which he says is a conservative estimate. District officials are hoping voters will see the value in allowing them to exceed the revenue cap by $850,000 a year for six years. More information about the referendum is available on the District’s website.
Waupun Developments
A pair of development projects is well underway in Waupun. Mayor Rohn Bishop says with new ownership of the convenience store where Dunkin’ Donuts is located a decision was made to build a new stand-alone store for the franchise. The new Dunkin’ Donuts will be located across the street from the Piggly Wiggly on Gateway Drive, which is just off of the U.S. Highway 151 expressway. The other much larger project is the $100 million development by the United Cooperative in Waupun’s Industrial Park. The first phase is underway now and ultimately the feed production, soybean processing, and grain storage facility will add 50 new jobs with an annual payroll of $3 million to the city. Bishop says they are hoping with the tax increment from that project they can connect Shaler Drive allowing for a longer frontage road.
