Oshkosh Man Sentenced To Prison For Robbing A Van Full Of People

A Federal judge in Green Bay Monday sentenced a 26-year-old Oshkosh man to 7 ½ years in prison for robbing a van full of people 2 years ago. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin says Raymon Fuller, Jr. was armed with a 9 millimeter Glock handgun with an extended magazine when he robbed a van full of people in Oshkosh on August 28th of 2020. Fuller got a small amount of marijuana and cash during the robbery. During the sentencing Judge William Greisbach noted the serious nature of the crime, the strong need for deterrence, and the need to protect the public from Fuller. In addition to the prison term, Fuller will spend five years on supervised release after he is released from prison.

Fourth OWI For Janesville Man Stopped In Winnebago County

The State Patrol arrested a 35-year-old Janesville man on his way home from a Green Bay Packers preseason game Friday night on Interstate 41 in Winnebago County for his 4th operating a motor vehicle under the influence offense. The County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center got a complaint about a Chrysler minivan heading south on I-41 near Winneconne Avenue. A state trooper located the vehicle on southbound I-41 near the Lake Butte de Morts Bridge and saw it deviating from its lane. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle but the minivan continued until it exited at State Highway 21 and turned west, eventually stopping in a parking lot on North Westhaven Drive in Oshkosh. The driver, Justin Carr, showed signs of impairment. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and provided a preliminary breath test that put his blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit (0.169). Troopers arrested him for his 4th OWI.

Milwaukee Man Charged In Dodge County In Relation To Child’s Death

A second parent of a three-year-old who died in Lomira two years ago made his initial appearance in Dodge County court Monday on three felony counts of neglecting with a consequence of great bodily harm and one misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer. Thirty-five-year-old Frank Pleester of Milwaukee was released on a $50,000 signature bond.  In July of last year the baby’s mother 35-year-old Jamie Hildebrandt was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges stemming from her three-year-old son’s death. An autopsy concluded the toddler died of multiple blunt force injuries to his head, chest and back. According to the criminal complaint issued against Pleester the child was seriously neglected before his death. Both parents failed to bring him in for medical appointments and the child was chronically malnourished at the time of his death. Prosecutors also allege Pleester knew of Hildebrandt’s neglect of the child and her drug use. Pleester will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 15th.

RASD Referendum

Voters in the Ripon Area School District will be asked to approve an operational referendum on the November 8th ballot. It will ask to exceed the District’s revenue cap by $850,000 a year for 6 years beginning with the current 2022-23 school year. The amount is more than the $545,000 a year the District was originally contemplating, but District Business Manager Jonah Adams says a couple things factored into that decision. He says for one thing state aid is increasing in the second year of the state budget and property values increased by nearly 10 percent in the District. In addition the closing of Tax Increment District #4 in the industrial park in the north part of the City of Ripon will add $14 million in property values to the District. So if voters approve the referendum the mill rate of $8.15 will still be lower than the current rate of $8.27 and an all-time low for the district. More information about the referendum is available on the District’s website.

Ripon Area School District – 2022 Referendum

Tygert Street Bridge

The City of Ripon’s civil engineering consultant MSA is putting together engineering plans, specifics and will handle the bidding for the removal of the Tygert Street Bridge. It’s been a few years since the bridge ceased handling motor vehicle traffic, but failed this spring as a pedestrian street bridge with a big hole in it.  City Administrator Adam Sonntag says the agreement with MSA would also include riverbank stabilization and a hydraulic study to determine how the removal of the bridge would impact Silver Creek. The lump sum for MSA services would be nearly $46,000. A bridge construction estimate will be included in MSA’s services for the design and construction of a future pedestrian bridge over Silver Creek. The estimate will include estimated construction and design costs for two alternative pedestrian bridge types. The plan will be put together this year and be executed in 2023.

Collaboration Toward A Common Goal

The new executive director of the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce says they have a wonderful working relationship with Ripon Main Street. The two share office space but Mandy Kimes says she’s been able to lean on Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon for his advice and over 30 years of experience as she adapts to her new role. She says even though their focuses are a little different they are both working toward the betterment of Ripon and collaborate quite a bit. Kimes says the transformation of the downtown over the years has been incredible because growth has been a common goal for the Chamber, Main Street, and city leaders and developers.

K9 Boomer Tracks Suspect In A Cornfield

Beaver Dam Police K9 Boomer

The Beaver Dam Police Department’s K9 Boomer lent his nose to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office when they asked for assistance Sunday night tracking a suspect that had crashed a motorcycle and fled on foot into a cornfield. Boomer tracked the suspect through the cornfield approximately three-quarters of a mile. That allowed deputes to set up a perimeter in the area. Eventually the suspect emerged from the cornfield and was spotted by deputies, who were able to take the suspect into custody without incident. The Beaver Dam Police Department has two K9’s, Boomer and Yeti who have both located suspects in the city, and assisted outside agencies in these types of incidents.
