The 51-year-old Weyauwega man charged with a 30-year-old double murder in Waupaca County has asked for more time to find an attorney. Tony Haase appeared via video conference for his court appearance Tuesday and asked for two weeks, but the judge only granted a week to next Tuesday. Haase was charged last Friday with two counts of first degree intentional homicide for the March 21st, 1992 murders of Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad. On that Saturday the two victims were found stabbed to death at Togstad’s residence in Royalton. A dog was also found dead of stab wounds at the scene. DNA taken from a pen Haase used during a traffic stop led to his arrest. Prosecutors say Haase murdered Togstad and Mumbrue because he blamed Togstad’s father for his father’s death 15 years earlier in a snowmobile crash. Haase told investigators after a night of drinking he went to Togstad’s residence and got into a fight with Mumbrue and stabbed him. Afterwards he knocked Togstad unconscious and stabbed her. Haase remains in jail on a $2 million cash bond.
