In the Northwoods League Sunday, The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders set the franchise record for runs in a single game and runs in a season during a 21-2 rout of the Wausau Woodchucks at Athletic Park on Sunday afternoon to finish July three games ahead of the Woodchucks and Lakeshore Chinooks for the second-best overall record in the Great Lakes West Division.
The Dock Spiders broke their previous franchise record of 19, set on July 12, 2022, against the Madison Mallards. They also recorded a season-high seven doubles and 12 extra-base hits. They tied their season-high with three home runs, including two from Kemp Alderman (Ole Miss), who became the ninth Dock Spider in franchise history to tally a multi-home run game. The children and grandchildren of the Boston Celtics legend were able to say their goodbyes on Saturday, a source told Andscape. The 11-time NBA champion had been dealing with health issues in recent years, sources said.
Russell was widely considered a paramount figure in NBA history after winning 11 times with the Celtics in 13 years but was just as well known for being outspoken on social justice issues. The two-time Basketball Hall of Famer was the first African American coach in NBA history and a part of the first all-Black starting five.
On the PGA Tour Sunday Tony Finau won the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. He cruised to a five-shot victory over Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young and Taylor Pendrith. He finished at 262, 26-under par. It was Finau’s second straight win and fourth of his career.
On the LPGA Tour Ayaka Furue won the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open Sunday by seven strokes.
