After an off-day Thursday the Brewers continue their home stand tonight by hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (2-7, 4.28 ERA) starts for the Pirates against Brewers lefty Aaron Ashby (1-6. 4.66 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
In the NL Central Thursday the Reds and Pirates split a doubleheader with Pittsburgh winning the first game 4-2 and Cincinnati coming back to take the second game 5-1, the Cardinals nipped the Bravers 3-2 and the Dodgers beat the Cubs 5-3. The Brewers lead the Cardinals by 2 ½ games in the division.
In the Midwest League Thursday South Bend won at home over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-6. They meet again tonight with the first pitch at 6:05 CDT.
In the Northwoods League Thursday night the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders beat the Kalamazoo Jackrabbits 13-6 at Kokomo Municipal Stadium 13-6 to sweep the season series. The Dock Spiders finish their three-game road trip tonight against the Lakeshore Shinooks. First pitch is at 6:35.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed 2022 first round draft pick MarJon Beauchamp.
“MarJon’s drive, focus and character have been infectious, and we’re excited to see his athleticism, defensive versatility, and basketball IQ impact our team,” said Bucks General Manager Jon Horst. “He will have a great opportunity to grow as a young player within our system and organization and we look forward to having him in Milwaukee.”
A 6-7, 197-pound forward, Beauchamp was selected by the Bucks with the 24th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of NBA G League Ignite where he averaged 15.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 35.2 minutes per game during the 2021-22 season. In his 21 games (20 starts) with G League Ignite last season, the Yakima, Washington native shot 53.8% from the field, scoring 20+ points six times and logging six double-doubles
Prior to joining G League Ignite, the 21-year-old Beauchamp averaged 30.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists in his lone collegiate season with Yakima Valley College in 2020-21.
Former Packers coach Mike Holmgren, former players Sterling Sharpe and Cecil Isbell, media relations director Lee Remmel and scout Jack Vainisi have been named semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Holmgren led the Packers to the Super Bowl XXXI title and Super Bowl XXXII, and compiled a 75–37 record in Green Bay from 1992-98 before leaving for Seattle, when he led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl during the 2005 season. Holmgren’s regular season record was 72-56 in Seattle (1999-2008), giving him a 147-93 record.
Meanwhile, Sharpe played in Green Bay from 1988-1994 and caught 595 passes for 8,194 yards and 65 TDs before being forced to retire due to a neck injury.
Remmel worked in the Packers’ media relations office from 1994-2007 and was named the team’s first historian.
Vainisi scouted for the Packers from 1950-60, and recommended drafting hall of famers Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung and Jerry Kramer.
For the second year in a row, Green Bay Packers officials and former players will travel across Wisconsin to visit with fans. Previously known as the Packers Tailgate Tour, the Packers Road Trip will include surprise visits to schools, hospitals and businesses throughout Western and Central Wisconsin. The group will visit areas in and around New London, Waupaca and Wausau among other communities.
The road trip will include former Packers cornerback Tramon Williams, running back James Starks, linebacker Mike Neal, guard and offensive tackle Tony Moll as well as centers Jason Spitz and Scott Wells. Packers President Mark Murphy will also be onboard the bus.
On Thursday Packers running back Aaron Jones hosted his 2nd annual Aaron Jones Football Pro Camp with over 200 kids in grades 1-8 getting the chance to learn from the former Pro Bowler. Jones is heading into his fourth season with the Packers.
