Ribbon Cutting For Middle Mile Of Lauree’s Trail
A ribbon-cutting will be held Saturday at noon for the middle mile of “Lauree’s Trail,” the multi-use trail between Ripon and Green Lake. It will be known as the “Oberreich Foundation Mile” due to the $150,000 donation from the Oberreich Fund for completion of that one-mile section of the trail. Green Lake Greenways has been working on the trail named after Lauree Renaud since 2008. Greenways President Howard Hansen says it was her vision to have a bicycle trail that connected the two communities. He says she had the vision to put the right people together to work on the trail before her death which was four years ago today. Bike rides will be held Saturday from Knuth’s in Ripon at 11 am and from Fortifi Bank in Green Lake at 11:30 out to the ribbon-cutting site at Green Lake Flooring Center. Afterwards there’s a gathering back at Knuth’s. Fundraising for the third phase of the trail is the next task ahead for Green Lake Greenways. To donate visit the Greenways website or send your donation to Green Lake Greenways, P.O. Box 321, Green Lake Wisconsin 54941.

FDL County Corrections Deputy Praised
An off-duty corrections deputy for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office recently had a hand in saving a man’s life. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says Deputy Ligibett Andrade was exercising at the Sheboygan County YMCA when a man collapsed. She and YMCA Senior Physical Director Matt Mueller immediately jumped into action and surmised the victim was having a cardiac arrest. They worked on him together administering CPR and used an AED until Sheboygan Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over. Ultimately the man survived but it was confirmed he had suffered a massive heart attack. Later Mueller contacted the Sheriff’s Office and praised Deputy Andrade for the calm and confidence she displayed while they worked on the man. Mueller said, “She’s a good one for sure. In my eyes and others you’ve have a great team there.”
Tributes To Tom Poberezny
One of the best tributes to the late Tom Poberezny retired president and chairman of the Experimental Aircraft Association is the growth of AirVenture over the years. Poberezny passed away early Monday morning at the age of 75, following a brief illness. This week’s AirVenture was just getting started when the aviation community learned of his passing. Dick Knapinski of EAA says under his leadership the event grew from what it was in the 1970s an excellent world-know gathering to America’s aviation festival. Knapinski says there will be tributes to Poberezny and in fact there were a few spontaneous efforts the first day of EAA. There was missing man formation flown during the Air Show and a sky writer fashioned a big heart symbol in the sky with the word “Tom” above it. Tom Poberezny was EAA president from 1989 until 2010, and also served as chairman for two years until his retirement in 2011.
