Luis Urías delivered a game-ending sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to bring home Andrew McCutchen as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Minnesota Twins 7-6 on Tuesday night. McCutchen started the winning rally with a one-out single off Tyler Duffey (2-4), who then walked Kolten Wong and Hunter Renfroe to load the bases. Urías followed with a fly ball, and McCutchen slid home head first well ahead of right fielder Alex Kiriloff’s throw.
Urías homered earlier in the game and Renfroe and Wong also went deep. Renfroe has homered in four of the Brewers’ five games since the All-Star break.
Gio Urshela hit a three-run homer and Byron Buxton added a solo shot for the Twins, his 24th.
Milwaukee’s Josh Hader (1-4) retired the side in order in the top of the ninth to gain a measure of revenge against the Twins. Hader allowed a game-ending, three-run homer to Jose Miranda in a 4-1 loss at Minnesota on July 13. That was one of the lowlights in Hader’s slump just before the All-Star break, as the four-time All-Star gave up 12 runs in a stretch of six games.
Urías knocked home the winning run on the game’s final play four nights after hitting a walk-off single in the 13th inning of the Brewers’ 6-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Buxton led off the game with a 449-foot drive well over the left-field wall against Ethan Small, who was making his second career start. Buxton had missed the Twins’ two-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers to rest a right knee that received a platelet-rich plasma injection Wednesday. He wasted no time showing he was back in peak form.
Both teams wasted chances to break a 6-all tie late.
Chris Archer (2-4, 3.41 ERA) starts for the Twins and Corbin Burnes (7-4, 2.20) pitches for the Brewers as this two-game series ends Wednesday afternoon with a matchup of right-handers. First pitch is at 1:10 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.
Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Cubs beat the Pirates 4-2, Miami edged Cincinnati 2-1 and Toronto pounded St. Louis 10-3. The Brewers increased their lead over the Cardinals too three games in the division.
In his Wisconsin Timber Rattlers debut, the Milwaukee Brewers top overall prospect Jackson Chourio went 2-4 with an RBI, but the Timber Rattlers lost their 8th straight, 10-4 the final. Wisconsin had a 4-1 lead over Cedar Rapids heading to the 6th inning, but the Kernels scored nine runs over the final four innings for the victory. The teams meet again this afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium with the first pitch at 12:10
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders put the tying run on base in the ninth inning, but Jaxson Meyer (Williston State College) struck out the go-ahead run to clinch an 8-6 Green Bay Rockers win on Tuesday night at Capital Credit Union Park in Green Bay. The win was the 10th of the half for the Rockers, who improved to 20-32 overall with the win, 10-7 in the second half. The Dock Spiders fell to 27-26 overall and 8-11 on the half. The loss dropped the Dock Spiders into fourth overall in the division, a game behind the Lakeshore Chinooks and Wausau Woodchucks..
The game featured eight combined home runs, the most in a Dock Spiders game this year. The Rockers hit six while the Dock Spiders hit two.
Austin Vandenbrink (1-0, Murray State) took the win while Tyler Tornberg (2-2, Rutgers) was tabbed with the loss.
The Dock Spiders return home tomorrow morning to take on the Madison Mallards in a day-night doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 11:35 a.m., and game two is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Both games are scheduled for nine innings.
The Packers veterans reported to training camp Tuesday morning ahead of their first practice on Wednesday. There’s already a few updates to the roster. In offseason minicamp, Watkins expressed the key for him to succeed this year is to stay healthy.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers rolled up to Training Camp in typical Aaron Rodgers fashion Tuesday. The MVP quarterback let his hair down and paired a white tank top with blue jeans and boots, taking a cue from Nicolas Cage in the movie “Con Air.”
Veteran players reported to camp ahead of the first day of practice.
As training camp opens today the Green Bay Packers are bringing back one of their long-standing traditions to kick off the football season. The organization says the tradition of riding young fans’ bikes to and from practice has gone on since the 1950s. Because of the pandemic, the last time this event happened in full was in 2019.

The Green Bay Police Department has launched a review of the incident in which an officer shoved Packers RB AJ Dillon during Saturday’s soccer match at Lambeau Field.
The department says the Professional Standards/Internal Affairs Division is conducting the review.
“It is clear that there was a miscommunication between the Officer and Mr. Dillon. The Green Bay Police Department appreciates the perspective and supportive words from Mr. Dillon,” reads a statement from the department.
Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said the incident is unfortunate, but he stands by Dillon who said it was a misunderstanding.
Dillon was attending the match between Bayern Munich and Manchester City when he went out on the field during a weather delay. He was attempting to do a Lambeau Leap when an officer pulled on his jersey and shoved him. Dillon was then given the go-ahead to do the leap.
Dillon tweeted that the incident was a miscommunication. He said security guards escorted him down the field and he assumed that was not communicated to the officer.
