FDL County Experiencing Medium Community Level Of COVID

Officials with the Fond du Lac County Health Department reported Friday that the county is now experienced Medium Community Levels of COVID-19. They say at that level people should talk to their healthcare provider about whether they need to wear a mask and take other precautions, should stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, and get tested if they have symptoms. If you plan on attending any events in upcoming days, it’s also a good idea to test before you go. Green Lake and Winnebago counties are also experiencing Medium Community Levels of COVID-19. Dodge, Waupaca and Waushara counties are still at low levels.

Thefts From Boats Continue Around Big Green

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say thefts from boats and piers are continuing around Big Green. They ask that residents make sure to take all fishing equipment and valuables with them when they leave their boat. Many of the thefts appear to be crimes of opportunity, so by removing your items and locking them up, the thief or thieves won’t have any items to take. Anyone with information about these crimes or any others can report them anonymously to the Green Lake County Stoppers at 1-800-438-8436 or text them to GETTHEM at 847411. You can also email them to getthem@co.green-lake.wi.us. Tips may be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of any suspects.

FDL Man Convicted Of Election Fraud

A 76-year-old Fond du Lac man last week pleaded “no contest” to an election fraud charge stemming from illegally voting in Fond du Lac County during the November 2020 election. Another charge against Lawrence Klug was read into the record and dismissed. Klug was living outside of the county when the election occurred. He was fined $500 and court costs on the misdemeanor charge. District Attorney Eric Toney says they want to encourage people to exercise their right to vote but they must do so where they actually live.

State Highway 73 Project Begins

Governor Tony Evers recently signed a nearly $3 million contract for resurfacing of State Highway 73 in Green Lake and Marquette counties from the Fox River Bridge in Princeton to the White River Bridge in Neshkoro. Construction begins today. In addition to new asphalt being paved, there will be repair or replacement of culverts and guardrail, and sidewalk curb ramps will be upgraded to Americans with Disabilities Act standards in Princeton and Neshkoro. During construction State Highway 73 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations between Princeton and Neshkoro and shoulder closures. Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-October.

Busy Time For Alice

75th Alice in Dairyland Taylor Schaefer

Wisconsin’s 75th Alice in Dairyland Taylor Schaefer hit the ground running when she started on July 5th and has already traveled more than 3,000 miles across the state acting as the state’s Agricultural Ambassador. She says she’s more than happy to schedule a visit for a particular event or to talk in front of a group. It’s simply a matter of making a request at her website Alice in Dairyland.com.  But her schedule is filling up quickly. The State Fair starts on August 4th and she will be there all 11 days of the fair. Some of her duties there will include attending milking demonstrations and different auctions. Recent stops in the area for Taylor included Widmer’s Cheese Cellars in Theresa to sample their cheese curds and Kelley Country Creamery in Fond du Lac for ice cream.

AirVenture One Week Wonder

It is not unusual to see home-built planes at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, but this week volunteers will be building one right on the grounds at Wittman Regional Airport. Dick Knapinski of EAA says the “One Week Wonder” program is an effort to build a functional plane by the end of the week. He says the kit will come from Sonex Aircraft of Oshkosh. He says they hope to have the plane complete for the Air Show on Sunday. Knapinski says anyone attending EAA is welcome to help with the effort, sign the builder’s log, and have their picture taken. Last year over 660,000 people attended AirVenture with close to 10,000 aircraft participating.

Top Gun Showing At Town Square

The Freeland Film Festival is teaming with the Town Square Community Center in Green Lake the last Thursday of each month for a “Movie Night.” The showing this week with EAA AirVenture underway will be “Top Gun.”  Evelyn Galster of Freeland USA says with their mission of habitat conservation and wildlife protection in mind her brother Steve has asked Mark Webb a former pilot with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to speak briefly before the film about the harm poaching poses. There is a $5 cost to attend the movie with proceeds going to Freeland for their future festival efforts. The movie will be shown in the upstairs ballroom and the “Jury Bar” will be open and snacks will be served. Doors open at 5:30 pm with the movie starting at 6:30 pm.
