FDL Bombing Suspects Charged

Fond du Lac County prosecutors have charged two men who allegedly made a homemade bomb that exploded in a residential mailbox on July 9th, 2016 in the City of Fond du Lac. One victim was injured in the explosion. According to the criminal complaint Elliot Schneider of Sparta made the bomb and placed it at the Doty Street home because someone there “ripped him off” for $1,200. Two men were seen running from the area after the explosion. Schneider made his initial court appearance earlier this month and a $30,000 signature bond was set. The other man allegedly involved in the bombing, Jonas Johnson of Fond du Lac, made his initial court appearance yesterday. His bond was set at $100,000 cash. Schneider is 24 and Johnson turns 24 on Saturday. Both are charged with being party to the crimes of first degree reckless injury, damage of property by use of explosives, three counts of first degree recklessly endanger safety, and intentionally abusing a hazardous substance. Schneider allegedly paid Johnson to put the bomb in the victim’s mailbox. The explosion near the front door of the duplex blew a hole from the porch into the living room and knocked out the windows of a neighbor’s home.

MPTC Referendum Information Sessions Will Be Scheduled

Moraine Park Technical College will be getting out more information about a $55 million referendum it would like to put before voters in November. The Moraine Park District Board took public comments during a hearing at their meeting on July 11th in Fond du Lac and will make a decision at their August 19th meeting about whether to stage a referendum. Moraine Park President Bonnie Baerwald says if they do put on a referendum they will have community listening sessions, post information on social media and will also approach service organizations about doing presentations. Baerwald says they primarily serve Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Dodge, and Washington counties and parts of six other counties so they have a lot of people to inform about the possible referendum. If successful, the $55 million referendum will allow Moraine Park to borrow funds to enhance and grow MPTC facilities to meet the needs of business and industry in the region through four major projects.
